As well it should he's a ... you fill in the blank. To cover a team and disagree with management and the coach is one thing. But to constantly rip on a team, its management and especially its fans for just being die hard hockey fans of a team is something quite phucking else. Who the phuck is he to insult Leaf fans ( please leave this up to me) for having faith (albeit blind faith) in their team and following them even when they are abysmal. He is supposed to be a journalist and cover the team without prejudice and not to insult their fans, taking pot shots at management and even the players is one thing, but insulting an entire fan base because of the passion they hold for their team is dispicable if you are supposed to be a so called journalist.

Maybe Berger gets exactly what he deserves and maybe he should leave the pot shots for the team/players and management. You know, show some god damn class for once. He has insulted RW and Leaf management every since RW scolded him in public and on TV. He hasnt stopped with the personal vendetta ever since. If you want to bash a team because they are horrible and made huges mistakes going forward, then fine, but Howard is still settling scores from a year or two ago. Maybe he should just get over it and go back to covering the team without biases and certainly without insulting the fans, who give Berger back some of his own medicine and his fragile ego cant take it.

You reap what you sow Berger, leaf fans didnt start the insulting, you did, and you havent let up since. So continue to blog, try and be a little more respectful to the fans, the team/players/management are in the spotlight and so are fair game. However, if you think the Leafs fans are going to allow you to insult them repeatedly and not give it back then you are a bigger fool then they say you are...

I am locking all Berger threads from commenting for the time being.

Howard Berger is my friend. Howard Berger was one of the first in the mainstream media to believe in me. During the lockout, when no one but Howard was working harder, we quickly realized we shared a passion for the getting the story out and hockey back on the ice. When it's time to ask questions in a Maple Leafs scrum, Howard Berger often has the role of asking the first question and breaking the ice. That, in our world, is a position earned, and to have have earned such a distinction in what is unquestionably "The Hockey Media Capital of the World" tells you all you need to know about Howard. In a city where many find it "hip" to trash Eklund or complain that my rumors make them have to actually work and call up GMs to check them out, Howard has stood by me.

I don't always agree with his opinions on the Leafs, and he doesn't always agree with mine. But it never once has gotten in the way of our professional relationship. He is often critical of Leaf fans and the team. While, I don't always agree with that either he is allowed his opinion. I get how that rubs people the wrong way. Even I myself, may have thought there were times he went too far. But this is his blog. And as long as I am the person who runs hockeybuzz Howard will have a space to write his opinions and thoughts.

I wont however allow the lunatics and the idiots to build themselves up anymore by being disrespectful and lewd towards Howard personally. It's ashame that a very few have made me lock Howard's threads for those of you who really do want to talk Leafs hockey. Hopefully, after some time has passed, we can once again open them up.

This is a growing trend recently.

One of my favorite site Engadget.com turned off all of their comments for a period. I will leave you with their explanation, which I could almost use word for word...

Thank You for Reading and Understanding.

Eklund.

from Engadget.com

"Hey guys, we know you like to have your fun, voice your opinions, and argue over your favorite gear, but over the past few days the tone in comments has really gotten out of hand. What is normally a charged -- but fun -- environment for our users and editors has become mean, ugly, pointless, and frankly threatening in some situations... and that's just not acceptable. Some of you out there in the world of anonymous grandstanding have gotten the impression that you run the place, but that's simply not the case.

Luckily, our commenting community makes up only a small percentage of our readership (and the bad eggs an even smaller part of that number), so while they may be loud, they don't speak for most people who come to Engadget looking for tech news. Regardless, we're going to crank things down for a little bit to let everyone just cool off, and we'll switch them back on when we feel like we've shaken some of the trolls and spammers loose from the branches (AKA swing the banhammer in our downtime). See you on the other side!"

"LOL

I guess that some Flyers fans think that the game will be decided on these forums. They can talk all they want, but they are about to eviscerated by a vastly superior team in every aspect. I guess that winning seven straight road playoff games (five of which were against two of the best home teams in hockey) doesn't count unless Pronger's genitalia gets proper care by Byfuglien. Go ahead and focus on Buff. Hell, he played defense in the first series and he is out there to wreak havoc in front of the net and to open up space for Toews and Kane. His goal scoring is all a bonus.

I have seen on the Flyers blog where they have compared the Hawks and Flyers players to one another and how these teams are a mirror image of one another. Really? The Hawks finished 24 points ahead of the Flyers in a far superior conference. (The Flyers were only 26 points away from the worst team - Edmonton, which puts the Flyers smack in the middle of average.) Of course the regular season doesn't mean anything, when your team's is statistically dwarfed by the other. Think that Richards can shut down the Toews line? Good luck with that. Ask San Jose how that went for them. Ask Vancouver how well they shut them down. Think that your two pairs of defensemen can play the whole game? As San Jose why they dressed seven defensemen. The Hawks are fast and they can play physical.

But the best is people who think that the goaltending is a wash. The Flyers have gone through seven goaltenders this year. That is one goaltender for every Niemi shutout. Sure, Niemi is young, but his .949 save percentage against the Sharks (a team with a real offense) was awesome. But, the Flyers happen to draw the three worst offensive teams in all of the playoffs and now Leighton is the second coming of Patrick Roy.

The Hawks led the NHL in shots for and in shots against. Wrap your head around that for a minute.

A couple of the Flyers posters here complained (erroneously) that JJ and the Hawks fans don't give the Flyers a chance and how unfair that is. Well, here you go. The Hawks are going to destroy you.

And to the cordial, intelligent Flyer fans, I look forward toward a great series and wish you the best of luck!

Flame away. "

If the Canucks had as many years as the Leafs have had to win the Stanley Cup, then you can make that statement. The fact is that the Canucks have spent 40 years in the NHL, and the Leafs have spent 83 years in the NHL. Give the Canucks 43 years to catch up in seasons, and they will for sure surpass the Leafs in Cup wins.

So the proposed deal is Kaberle an a Prospect for a Top 3 forward, a draft pick and a Top Goalie prospect.

You have to think as far as that Leafs Prospect goes it wont be Kadri the way hes being hyped up in Toronto he's staying. Schenn, Hanson, Caputi, Bozak, Stalberg are all staying. Bryden Irwin is unlikely to move as the leafs just acquired him.

The Leafs Current "Top Prospects" that i havent mentioned are, Jerry D'Amigo, Kenny Ryan, Jesse Blacker(D),Jimmy Hayes, Mikhail Stefanovich, Phillipe Paradis, Dale Mitchell, Chris DiDomenico and Jamie Devane. Out of those listed prospects no one really stands out as a must have or really intriguing. You'd have to think it will depend on what the team making the trade with the Leafs needs or if they see potential in anyone of them. ( I no these prospects are by no mean all blue chippers or expected to be 1st lines i just listed there top draft picks)

Scenarios ------

Anaheim - Bobby Ryan is requested 5 million per season an that may be to much for Anaheim, hes a top 3 forward by my standards an im sure many other peoples as well. As for the pick they have 2 1st rounders in this draft, although that could just mean there 2nd rounder is expendable. Also furthermore making Ryan that much more available. The goaltending prospect could be one of many the Ducks have in there system, Marco Cousineau or Igor Bobkov could fit the bill. Were this deal would come to a stand still is they say there gonna flip the pick and the goalie for something big... i cant see Bobkov or Cousineau assuming there the goalie, being that intriguing to another team. Leafs prospect going back Jimmy Hayes

Philadelphia- Jeff Carter, has rumored to be going to the Leafs a few years back straight up for Kaberle. With the way Phily played without him in the first 3 rounds of the playoffs maybe they feel hes expendable for that puck moving defensemen, acquiring Kaberle could give them the option to move Timmonen for a lower priced 2nd line center. The Flyers have a number of goaltending prospects once again none of them all that intriguing but they do have Adam Morrison, Nicola Riople, Jacob DeSerres, Joacim Andersson. Were this deal falls apart is the pick, the Flyers dont have a 1st or 2nd rounder in this years draft. Leafs prospect going the other way Kenny Ryan, fits the Flyer mold an is a linemate of Eric Wellwood another Flyer Top Prospect

Boston- Yes Boston, as far as the top 3 forward goes that slips my mind, its not gonna be Lucic, Savard or Bergeron, but i guess if u considered Krejci a top 3 forward this deal could work. The Bruins wouldnt think to move the Leafs 2nd overall pick they acquired in the Kessel deal but they might move there own to acquire Kaberle a defensemen that they have been dying to have for years. The Bruins are set in goal for years an that makes there only goaltending prospect Michael Hutchinson expendable in my mind. Krejci, 1st rounder and Hutchinson for Kaberle and Dale Mitchell

Washington- Its surprising they would be interested in Kaberle as he is known for his lack of defensive skill and they already have a player like that in Mike Green, But eh ill just speculate on who would be involved in the deal. Seeing as the goalie being acquired by the Leafs is supposley going to be moved in another deal, Michal Neuvirth is the logical choice to pick. He has NHL experience, preformed well during his stay in the NHL an could be a starter for an NHL club. The Caps 1st rounder is late in the 1st round thus making it pretty much an early 2nd rounder, but the label of being a 1st round pick makes the pick for intriguing. As for the top 3 guy i see it being Brooks Laich, he makes 3 million a season, is technically a 1st liner on the Caps an in my mind is expendable as anyone could put up points playing with Backstrom an Ovechkin.
Look for the rights to Kuelmin being the "prospect" moved if this trade goes threw.

Pittsburgh- With the chance Gonchar leaves, they will need a replacement for him an Kris Letang just isnt there yet, either is Goligoski. The Pens have a couple goalie prospects in Alexander Pechurskiy and Patrick Killeen, neither is a top goalie prospect though. Jordan Staal could be there top 3 player in this trade as hes eating up serious cap room being the 3rd line center an could easily become the Leafs 1st line center. As for the pick if indeed Staal goes i doubt it would be a 1st rounder, maybe a 2nd depending on the Leafs Prospect but in all likely hood a 3rd. Stefanovich or DiDomenico would fit in the Pens skilled offense.

Florida- Although People say Horton has a bad attitude i think its more or less him wanting out of Florida hes been wanting out for years now. Hes a Burke type player who loves playing in Toronto, he was born in Ontario an its home to him he would be a great fit for the Leafs. Yes Markstrom just signed a contract but he would fit the bill as a Top Goaltending Prospect, Vokoun is still in his prime an could be signed to a 3-4 year extension while another prospect is developed. The draft pick would not be a 1st rounder, most likely a 2nd or 3rd, Florida does have an extra 2nd round pick from the Denis Seidenberg trade. Look for James Reimer(G) or Jussi Ryanns to be the Leafs prospect.

Columbus- Its been said they need to make an impact now and dont wanna wait for a Fowler, Gudbranson or Gormley to develop, would they trade that 1st rounder for Kaberle probably but there is no goaltending depth in Columbus unless there thinking of moving Steve Mason. He did have a rough year but doubt it. As for a top line player think along the lines of Derek Brassard, RJ Umberger or Antonie Vermette. This trade doesnt make sense given the hole top 3 forward, top goalies prospect and a pick. But it does make sense if those guidelines are altered.

Those are my top 7 but there is a few more that make sense but are a little less logical.
Chicago- Have loads of Cap problems next season but taking on Kaberle at 4.5 is not really helping that. The Leafs could take Sharp or Versteeg but that still doesnt help the Blackhawks and there strong on D. Corey Crawford fits the bill as a top goalie prospect, an is one of those goalies ready to play in the NHL an could be flipped to another team. The Blackhawks pick will probably be 30th so its really expendable.
LA Kings- There D is pretty stong but Kaberle would help. They have alot of guys that could be considered top 3 forwards, Justin Williams and Jarrett Stoll are likely but Dustin Brown would be Burkes guy. The have Jonathan Beirner who is not likely to start in goal in LA for years to come with John Quick and Ersberg there, Beirner is also a guy who can be moved to an NHL team an then start. An the pick doesnt really mean anything to LA as there system is stocked with prospects.
Dallas is a darkhorse we all no Niewendyk loves Kaberle but i dont no if he has the pieces to pull off the trade, they have no goaltending prospect other then Tyler Beskorwany an he isnt exactly Corey Crawford or John Beirner. He has a 1st rounder but his team was weak so he'll probably keep it. He does however have an abundence of guys who could be called top 3 forwards.

Montreal - Could move Price, but two things here a trade between the leafs an habs... unlikely, and Price a top 3 forward an a pick is alot for Kaberle who they dont really need with Markov there an Subban coming up. However its still a possibility.

Nashville and the Islanders have top goalie prospects, 1st rounders but top 3 forwards not so much.

Buffalo and Vancouver have goalie prospects in Enroth and Schneider, they also have top 3 guys that are moveable and picks that are do to there current roster situations. Vancouver doesnt seem to wanna deal with the leafs due to the sedin stuff that happened last season. Buffalo is a divison opponent ur not gonna wanna see kaberle 6 times a season an likewise for whoever buffalo trades.

I see Anaheim, Boston an Pittsburgh being the front runners

Agreed.
As far as I'm concerned the only way I'd be cool with Kadri going anywhere is if one of the following names are coming back:

Crosby
Malkin
Getzlaf
Ovechkin
Stamkos

Anybody else...not really interested. And lets face it, none of those names are coming to Toronto let alone going anywhere any time soon.
