Exactly. Sure they have access to resources we don't, but at it's core, hockey is not that complicated of a game. If you've played and coached at the amateur level, which I have, and followed the game closely for nearly half a century, you may not be qualified to be an NHL GM, but you should have a pretty good understanding of what it takes to build a team and put a winner on the ice. That being said, I can damn well guarantee that I could be a better GM of an NHL team than a guy like Mike Milbury!

If coaches and GM's were all so smart, few if any would ever get fired. GM's have a tendency to sometimes get locked into a coach that is "their guy" and coaches often have a tendency to do the same things with players. It's simply human nature.

All kidding aside, I'm still a Hextall supporter. He seems to be both drafting well and stockpiling picks and he's done a good job of moving some deadwood out and getting at least some value in return. The Schenn trade could come back and bite him, or Frost could be the next Giroux, the other pick could turn out to be a late first round stud and now he looks like a genius for making the deal. Most of his other deals have been moving vets for picks and I'm fine with that.

When it comes to FA, he hasn't done much to help the team, but he also hasn't gone out and signed anyone to a long term, big money deal that will hinder the team in the future either. He clearly missed the boat on Weise, but if that is the worst FA move he ever makes, he'll be fine. The real test for Hextall will be transforming these picks and prospects into a Cup contender in the next 2-4 years. If he can't accomplish that, then it becomes time to start thinking about a new GM.

Unlike Hextall, who has been involved in the NHL in various capacities since his rookie playing season in 86-87 and who was involved in helping to build a 2 time Cup team in LA, coach Hakstol came aboard with zero NHL experience at any level and no professional coaching whatsoever on his resume. Therefore, it's pretty hard to give him the benefit of the doubt. This team has now struggled under him since December of last year. If reasonable progress isn't seen with the development of the kids on the roster before the end of this season and the team continues to struggle and finishes with a record that lumps them in with the bottom third of the league, I don't know how Hextall can justify going forward with the same head coach in 18-19. By all means, give him the rest of this season to work things out, but the clock should certainly be ticking.

Sam ReinFART is a bust...just like his slob brothers. We missed our opportunity to trade the scum last year when he still had a modest reputation. Now we are stuck with the waste bucket....don’t get me started on Kyle Okposo...I know he suffered a brain injury last year as wanted to kill himself and all, but my god...seeing Okposo on the ice makes me miss Ville Leino....and Phil Housely....HA! Enough of the sentimental choices for management and coaching! This man is in over his head! He is CLUELESS as a head coach. He was an emotionless, player during his career and has brought the same lack of passion to this locker room. Finally, how sad that we lost the lottery and got saddled with Eichel. Cute player...he should pan out to be MAYBE a point per game player when he hits his prime, but boy, oh boy....not getting McDavid truly devastated this franchise for decades to come.
