Because the US is a superpower with global influence right next door which also happens to be our biggest trading partner so the state of the economy has great influence on us.

The US could learn from Canada though as our government has effectively solved poverty by declaring anyone who makes above 50k "rich" and taxing them to the MaxXx

Because as much as Canadians like to chirp about "Canadian Pride" their identity really isn't anything more than a sad amalgamation of French, British and American culture

you can always narrow it down. there's a vague canadian pride. there's a real quebec pride, but then you go to montreal and there's people who identify more with montreal than quebec, then there's people who are staunchly west-islanders within montreal, or those who never leave hochelaga and think that's the real montreal.
then you have laval which everyone hates and is a mess

Another year, another playoff run short circuited from pathetic play from the savior Marc Andre Fleury. The first Tampa goal was a horrible goal. No one stops goal #2. He was hopelessly out of position on the third goal. I dont fault him for the 4th on the deflection, but if he is even adequate--or as RW likes to say League Average--we dont even go to overtime.

As usual, the MAF loving fans and media rush to his defense, blaming every other person from his high school principal to HBK to Letang, Malkin, Crosby, Kessel, Dumo, heck they even blame Ulf Samuelsson..but never will they concede one iota of blame to Marc Andre Fleury. It truly is amazing, the same goals the media was roasting Murray for, they give an absolute pass to Fleury...

People asked if they should put Malkin back in, citing the chemistry that had formed...While I agree that is a silly argument, NOT ONE person suggested that putting Fleury back in might upset the team chemistry. Again, the double standard.

How many series has he won since 2009? (2 first round series, '10 and '14)
Vokoun and Murray have done more
He blew up in games 4-6-7 against Montreal in 2010.
Stunk the whole series in 2012 vs Philly
Got pulled in favor of Vokoun in 2013.

The Penguins will never get over the hump as long as MAF mans the pipes. I was really optimistic this year they'd get over the hump with as well as Murray was playing. I dont care who is in goal, as long as they do the job. I want my Penguins to win. Im not taking joy in Fleury's poor performance, Im sick to my stomach about yet another lost opportunity for this franchise. You only get so many legitimate chances to win a Stanley Cup, and this franchise keeps frittering them away.

this is EXACTLY the unintended outcome of the whole draft related commentary and the related Leaf bashing.

all the other Canadian fanbases should be looking in the mirror - their teams are no better, they have been over-rating their players as the Leafs did leading up to those stupid Kessel and Phaneuf contracts.

every critique or issue they are trying to raise to rip into the Leafs or the Leaf fans applies to their situations.

they only ones who are somewhat more silent and reasonably so are the 'Peg fans - whose team actually has some upside.

all the rest heading off a cliff or floundering getting ready to fall of the cliff....

so keeping rippin' on the Leafs folks - just be sure to take a glance in the mirror once in a while

here you go
1) Canucks... not really necessary to say anything here.. situation (edge of cliff - in denial)
2) Habs... just a goalie away from being a contender (or not)
3) 'Peg... trending up ... but they just let their captain go at the trade deadline - although they have possibly the best NHL ready set of prospects
4) Edm - no point rehashing this... lots of highly paid young players and McDavid - other than that about 12 rosters spots to be filled or re-filled
5) Cal - was 2014/2015 real? or was 2015/2016? how big are the contracts for Monahan and Gaudreau?
6) hit bottom and loving it. cleansed the CAP issues, moved Kessel, Phaneuf and Clarkson contracts retaining only a total of 1.2M (which is astonishing), a prospect pool which now has some high end prospects

and the most important point "leafs are the envy of all the Canadian fan bases and they know it.
