How many players on the team were drafted outside the first round by the Leafs? Komarov, Reimer, who else? They've been terrible at drafting too. Well below average.

That goes back to asset management, not drafting... Leafs are average to above average at turning picks into players... they just wind up being players on other teams.

Interesting read.

Leafs weren't getting many top flight names because they didn't keep their 1st for a long time, but they're pretty good in the later rounds, especially with their euro picks

Man what a mess toronto is. I almost feel bad for them... Not

Imagine being a leaf fan right now. Gone to poop. Playoffs once in like 12 years and that was a lockout season. Babcock has them playing like crap and you know what's funny? They think Babcock is the saviour. Wtf like anyone could coach that wings team to a cup. And he only Has ONE. Pathetic. And you know what's even more pathetic? The God damn moron almost (frank)ed up team canada hahah Canada would have lost to Latvia if it wasn't for carey price lol Ted Nolan took him to school with a bunch of nobody's. 2-1 lol

And then there's Shanahan the biggest meatball in the hockey universe. Royally (frank)s up the NHL discipline area and then all of a sudden he can run a team lol maybe montreal should get Stephan quintal to run the team next year hahahah oh my. And then he hires the Louasauraus Rex to be the GM.. What a mess

And to top off all the icing on the cake.. Besides Riley the young core and prospects are made up of Russians, swedes, blonde chicks, Muslims, etc

Recipe for success lol

Alright I read enough garbage on one thread for today, First off IF Stamkos does not stay in TB it will be one of the four teams that he will sign with.
I don't think he will stay in TB, allot more going o in that dressing room the we will ever know

1) Toronto, Yes he would love to Play in Toronto, he will be a God in TO, He will make more $$ here then any other team with endorsements . I'm Sure Toronto will take a run at him for 10.5 Plus to land him. The problem I see with this is Shanny I feel does not like 7 year deals. Another issue is this , Does he really want to go thru 3-5 years of a rebuild. Babcock is a major advantage for players that want to win, he is a world class coach and players know he will make them a better player. The Team WILL be built around Stammers and that is BIG factor for him

2) Buffalo...yea nobody wants to play in Buffalo, not when your a die hard leaf fan like Stamkos. They might be a little further ahead the TO in the rebuild, but allot of you are forgetting the amount of picks we have in the next 2 years. The leafs will be ahead of Buffalo by far in the next two years.Lets be honest here Buffalo is the arm pit of the world and given a choice he WILL not play there

3) Montreal , Yes PK is there, Yes he and PK are great friends, with that being said its not likely he will. I do think they could free up the cap space to get him, but they are not a contender and wont be for a long while, No real advantage in going to the Habs.

4) Detroit , This is a very good possibility , he does want to play in a major franchise city, Michigan does have some first rate places to live, Ken Holland is a class act. They are a hard competing team and the fans are behind the team.

This is an extremely long letter I wrote to Shanahan one night a while a go when I couldn't sleep. Terrible grammar, its pretty much one long sentence and its fairly lame. That is the warning label so please don't bash the snot out of me it's a freaking glorious day in Leafs nation and gave me the nuts to post this.

Dear Brendan
I want to start this off with a random “I am proud of you”, lines like that are usually reserved for my kids who are amazing and I truly mean it. It usually comes from above going downward in this case it that could not be more untrue. By no stretch of the imagination am I in a position to judge or loftier on any perch than you. As a fan of the Leafs I truly see you as an employee of the fans as a group but not held accountable to any singular fan ever but I think that accountability should extend to the masses. The fans should be your ultimate driver, more so than shareholders, owners or any other entity and I truly believe this. Current, future and past fans need to be the true focal point and all the other stuff falls into place, profits, share price, bonuses etc. I think you and the group you have assembled gets this across the board. Current- providing transparency and not accepting past attitudes and behaviours that were prevalent before your regime. The hiring of Mike Babcock addresses both the current and the future and regardless of the recent amazing play because of the coach we are going to stay true to the course. Your dedication to the past as well is evident, as events to honour are done respectfully and professionally. The understanding of the foundation that is the most amazing team in any sport was created years and even decades before we were even born. I am proud of you for bringing respectability and pride and hope back to my team. Doing it the right way, I don’t agree with everything you have done or will do and I shouldn’t I’m a fan what do I know. I hope that you yourself actually second guess and regret some of your decisions, it’s a sign of accountability and growth and regardless of position those are keys to future success.
Funny side note I actually personally know you, we went to the same high school while you played for the Knights at Laurier. I’m quite sure you don’t remember me but we actually went out one night and you saved me from getting my teeth kicked in. We went to GT’s with your girlfriend at the time it was either Ingrid or Monique and I forget which one. You and your girlfriend that night actually said I was the funniest person you had ever met (I was pretty funny especially with a little stink eye sauce in me). The reason why I bring this up is because it lends to the fact of who you are and who you were. You were a solid guy, black and white, great sense of humour but a genuine down to earth solid person. I’m sure as we all do you have holes in your game but my personal small sample size and what I see through the media goggles has us in great hands. You were in a position back then to be cocky and arrogant and you never were. Shayne Stevenson now that was a different story (I’m just kidding I actually liked Shayne but he was cocky).
I did not graduate and have what equates to a grade nine education, don’t know if you ever had Mr. Day but he was brutal and if you ever read this you will quickly realize he didn’t forward my letter writing skills. I was watching the game tonight and wanted to throw my crazy two cents in on the analytics game. Please hear out this crazy idea and throw it around in your melon to see if it makes any sense. Can analytics and personal or even personality traits be used in conjunction with each other in hockey. I’ll try to explain this and give an example. Baseball is all about analytics and metrics and has been for far longer than hockey and we see it play out in every pitch now, infield shifts, pitching inside etc. It plays to the variables, we pitch inside and we move our guy two feet over, the trait of the player is to pull so we load that side of the field etc. Now use Bernier as an example who I think is an amazing goalie but goalies are a rare breed that is so much confidence based. If you look at his statistics and what I am proposing is strictly memory based speculation that he sucks when he does not face as many shots. When he faces a ton of shots his save% again I am speculating skyrockets. Analytics can prove these points but I am somewhat confident that is the case, I think that it can even be extended to early shots. The beginning part of the year when it seemed the first goal was on the first shot that first shot was already well into the game and the leafs carried the play early. Extend analytics to look at stuff like this for trends and see if these trends can be played. If any of these trends are real and can be verified then create the infield shift. Allow the opposition an early shot or shots as long as the analytics back up the facts. I know this is crazy thought but I think it might be something to at least have a discussion about.
If you had time to read this I truly appreciate it and because I am a cheeseball if there is any way that I could get something for my son I would be a hero. My son is a pretty special kid, he actually has spina bifida and he was diagnosed with this while in the womb. He was diagnosed to never walk and have a lifetime of complications. My wife who is a true hero had what is called in utero repair, they actually took Gabe out operated on him and put him back in. He still has complications as he cannot control his bladder and bowel but he runs and and has the heart of a lion. He is 13 and tries out for every sport and track event and never gets deterred that he finishes last. He is a blessing and is truly blessed with where he is in his lot in life. The only Leafs jersey he has is Kessels and so he wasn’t doing back flips with the trade, I think he finally gets it now. If I could get anything signed if possible I would be happy to pay for it or donate some money. I feel like a cheesbucket for asking for anything but then I realize the billion dollar corporation can probably afford it.
If you did I truly appreciate you reading this and if there is never any correspondence it doesn’t change one iota the fact that I am absolutely grateful that you are at the helm to lead the most storied franchise in all of sport to its glorious potential.
