The problem lies within the way people ridicule Leaf fans. Be critical of the team all you want but don't make fun of the loyal Leaf fans who simply just love their hometown team. We are not stupid (frank)ing sheep. We are the guys that keep the media in the business. We read your (frank)ing trolling garbage (not you, the media) and in turn these people say we are a mindless rabble of morons.

We are real hockey fans. We know the Leafs stink. But don't make fun of us for loving the Leafs. Be critical of the team all you want but also don't make it personal like Simmons or Berger who obviously have had their media passes revoked or were asked to back off once by a player. If you want to make fun of a player all the time in the news and media, you deserve to be scorned by the player next time on a post-game interview on Live television. And when you do, don't get butthurt and question the character of the Leafs or player & then turn it on the fans for supporting the team and players.

I watched all the Pacioretty goal highlights on Nhl.com. Strangely there are 36 this year. I don't think I doubled up on any, but maybe I made an error there. I made a brief description of each. It becomes pretty clear whether DD has a knack (or lack thereof) of finding Pac for scoring chances. Here is my list.

Max Pacioretty

35 - Solid NZ pass from Plekanec. Pac drives the play to the corner and scores from behind the net.
34 - (SHG) Eller forecheck on PK. Pass to Pac for a tap in.
33 - (SHG) Eller breakout pass from DZ blue line. Breakaway
32 *- Weise centers to Pac, shot, rebound, DD picks it up and makes a nice pass corner to goalmouth. Tap in
31 - Subban drives blueline to halfwall to Gally down low, quick to Pac in slot. 1 time.
30 - Beaulieu drives to half wall off (DD) FO win. Beauty cross ice to Pac for 1 time.
29 - (PP) goal Gally to Markov to Pac at the dot. (DD, Gally, Pac on PP)
28 - Centre ice FO (DD) win. Markov sends Pac on a breakaway on blueline to blueline pass.
27 - Plek rings it around DZ to Pac for EN goal.
26 - Subban rings it around DZ to Pac for breakaway goal.
25 - Weise creates DZ turnover, sends Pac on a breakaway.
24 - (OT) Subban long pass to Plek at OZ blueline. Plek drives OZ and centers to Pac for tap in. Overtime.
23 - Weise cross ice at OZ blueline to Pac. Screen shot from top of the circle.
22 - Plek causes turnover in DZ. Gally sends (some fortunate bounces) Pac on semi breakaway.
21 - (PP) goal. Plek centers to Pac in the slot from half wall. Redirect/shot. (Plek, Gally, Pac on PP)
20 - (PP) goal. Markov finds Pac in slot. Turnaround shot. (Plek, Gally, Pac on PP)
19 - Pac picks of Crosby in DZ and skates all the way 2 on one. Shot from dot.
18 - Gonchar to Gally blueline to blueline. Gally tips it through to Pac for semi break.
17 - Chuck from corner to Subban. Shot. Pac gets rbd in the slot.
16 - (PP) goal. Subban pass to Pac at dot. Shot from dot. (Chuck, Gally, Pac on PP)
15 - Prust rings it up boards. Pac skates on to it for EN goal.
14 - Subban flips it out high to Pac at other blueline for EN goal.
13 - Pac to DD on boards in DZ. DD return pass broken up. Pac returnover, 2 on 1 all the way. Shot.
12 - Subban long pass to Weise. Walks in from blueline to shoot. Rebound. Pac pots it.
11 *- Long pass to DD at OZ blueline. DD springs Pac all alone in OZ.
10 - Parenteau blueline to blueline sends Pac on a breakaway.
9 - Emelin steps up in NZ. Pass to Pac on to DD. Drives to side of net. Center to Pac for tap in.
8 - Weaver long pass to Pac at OZ blueline, touch to Weise. Weise drives to dot, centers to Pac at the top of the circle.
7 - Parenteau breakout to DD. DD gains OZ. Return drop to Parenteau. Shot deflected. Pac pots loose puck.
6 - Weise wins board battle in OZ corner, behind net to Pac. Pac walks out and scores.
5 - Weise drives OZ. Puck loose. Weise taps through to DD. Back to Weise (intended for Pac). Weise to Pac open in slot.
4 - DD breakout pass to Pac. Drives zone for shot. Weise drives to pick up rebound. Back to Pac in front.
3 *- (PP) goal. DD splits D for partial break. Pac pushes in rebound. (DD, Gally, Pac on PP)
2 - Parenteau to Pac at DZ blueline. Pac drives all the way, boards to net. (Phaneuf turnstyle foreshadow)
1 - (PP) goal. Subban shot. Pac pots rebound. (DD, PAP, Pac on PP)
0 *- DD springs Pac on a breakaway.

Note that DD is is only on the ice for 3 of his 6 PP goals.

And here is the same thing for a goal scoring LW playing with a consensus #1 center.

Corey Perry

31 - Getz springs Perry blueline to blueline. Perry makes nice move to get to net.
30 - Getz and Maroon win puck behind net to Perry on halfwall. Walks out and shoots.
29 - OT - Vatinen turns over and sends Perry on breakaway
28 - Etem cross goal mouth. Shot into wide open net.
27 - Getz breakout to Sekac. Beauty pass to Perry in front.
26 - Perry turns over puck, lobs for EN
25 - Getz flips to net. Loose puck picked up and potted.
24 - Getz huge hit on Orpik, poor clear to DSP. Into zone centers to Perry in slot.
23 - All Perry
22 - Kesler to Perry for EN
21 - Getz centers to Vatinen. Shot, Perry pots rebound.
20 - Getz from dot to Perry down low. Shot, rebound potted.
19 - EN from rebound in own end.
18 - Getz springs Perry on breakaway from DZ
17 - Getz from wall to Perry down low. Walks out and scores.
16 - Getz skates length of ice. Drop to Bourque. Tipped in at goalmouth.
15 - OZ pressure. Getz shot deflects off Perry in front.
14 - Perry to Getz through center. Gains zone, backhand to goalmouth tapped in by Perry.
13 - Getz from behind net to Beauchemin. Shot. Blocked, Perry pounces on rebound.
12 - Getz turns it over at DZ blueline. Springs Perry for breakaway.
11 - Sprung by D-man on partial breakaway. Perfect snap shot.
10 - Vatinen. Fake shot at blueline. Pass to Perry who walks in alone.
9 - EN from own end.
8 - Getz causes turnover. Over to Perry for one time.
7 - DSP on wall at center. Pass to Getz touched through to Perry for partial break.
6 - Perry gets a nice bounce. Rebound, Thompson passes to Perry at side for tap in.
5 - Maroon to Perry open in slot. (PP)
4 - Getz to Perry in slot from half wall. (PP)
3 - Kessler to Perry in slot (PP)
2 - Maroon picks off Fleury behind net. To Perry in front for tap in.
1 - Gets from behind net to Perry. Waits. Clapper. (PP)

And mods, Nick, Stash who ever else, that was just a sorry attempt right there. Not a warning, not a ban, but you thought I would fork over a credit card # to keep my account? Or maybe you thought you could gather more data on me because you don't like things I say on here. Maybe you planned to use the card info, hack my bank account. Who knows? You guys are low, just like this site. And if any anyone from this site tries to f uck with me on that level they will feel the wrath. Go ahead, delete my accounts. Talk about how you have "MY IP ADRESSS." Whoopty do. Amateurs.

dear engels,

awww heck, dear eric,

what does one say to that special someone who has been a binder (kind of like eggs) for habs fans on hb, the big (but sweet) butt of my acerbic critiques, the gatekeeper for way too many inmates who use your thread for their own personal therapy and the cutest cheerleader since kirsten dunst in bring it on.

eric, your blogs have been both entertaining, predictable and.... predictable. nevertheless, they were awaited with bated breathe, hardly ever read and revered by your followers (aka shEEep).

engels, after almost 9 years, I guess this break up is long overdue. you, like hb, have become stale and stagnant. your following of the same 10-15 posters over and over and over and over and over again is all it will ever be. sad, but 10-15 is better than a kick in the pants.

good luck at sportsnet eric. hopefully this new endeavour will stimulate your creative juices, provide you with a bigger challenge and an audience that will push you to be more creative and interesting. a word of advice: your radio spots are far more interesting and intelligent than your blogs. maybe it is that your thoughts and opinions don't translate as well in print as it does live. try to write as you come off live. if you can master this, I have no doubt you will find a much broader audience than would ever have been possible at hockeybuzz.

all the best of luck engels. hb will be a sadder place without you. if that is even possible.

At the risk of falling for the bait...... You have repeatedly shown disdain for the Flames. The furthest you've allowed yourself to go is to damn them with faint praise. But the number 1 reason that they are in the playoffs as everyone knows is not Corsi or Fenwick or PDO or any other stat that exists. It's because they played better as a real team than anyone else.
And now you bemoan the fact that (forgive me if I misunderstand) you are disappointed that individual stars don't play on good teams? Well, maybe stars and team players are almost always mutually exclusive - an oxymoron, if you will.
Imo, if ANY business has 20 employees who are all supposed to live, eat, sleep and work together for over 6 months a year and you pay 3 or 4 of them north of $6M each and the other 16 get 1/2M to 4M each a real team is the last thing you're likely to have eventually.
So watch Ovechkin or Crosby and enjoy their skill set. Or watch a real "team" like the Flames and enjoy the excitement of seeing what real heart and soul and going through a wall for each other can produce. And the icing on the cake for any hockey fan is seeing players like Wideman and Giordano perform beyond what the "experts" said was possible. And Monahan and Gaudreau who haven't yet been spoiled by "the system." Put that altogether and it's the hockey equivalent of an eclipse.
No one who actually watched the Flames for more than 3 or 4 games this year could possibly say they weren't impressed. I'm sorry for you that you weren't able to get your head around how exceptional this team has been and just enjoy some of the best hockey you're ever likely to see. Cheers.

Dear Mr. McCann,

I’ve contemplated writing you this letter many times over the past few years; previously I’ve been able to let my grievances go unexpressed, but I feel compelled now.

First, I want to clearly express my affinity for the city of Nashville. Over the past 5 years, I’ve been able to take 4-5 trips to your fine city, both for professional purposes as well as for a few trips to watch the Blackhawks take on the Predators. I can honestly say that it has been an incredibly enjoyable experience every time. I often tell people that the most fun I’ve had since college has been in Nashville. The music scene is obviously second-to-none, the food is great, the people have been friendly and welcoming, and I’ve been sad to leave each time.

I’ve been a Blackhawks fan for my entire 29 years. My family has been season ticket holders since I was in the womb. I’ve lived through the highs of the early ‘90s, the devastation of the Stanley Cup Finals loss to Pittsburgh in ’92, the doldrums of the 2000s, and of course the excellence of the current era. I’m about as die-hard a ‘Hawks fan as it gets – I still cherish my Mark Bell #28 jersey and remember being foolish enough to get excited about the ABC line (Tyler Arnason, Mark Bell, and Kyle Calder) as a youth. I remember going to games in the early 2000s when there were barely 5000 people in the stands. I write this simply to demonstrate that I’m not one of the knuckle-dragging, mouth-breathing, bandwagoners that you frequently characterize as the majority of Blackhawks’ nation.

The purpose of this letter is to express my disgust with such characterizations as well as your incessant whining about Chicago fans and sportswriters. Without fail, over the past few years, you have taken every opportunity to criticize Chicagoans, their traditions, actions, and words. Your arguments are often petty, hypocritical, or misguided. As someone trying to represent yourself as a level-headed, respectful, knowledgeable contributor to the hockey journalism cannon, I expect better from you.

You have been consistently critical of Chicago fans’ tradition of cheering the anthem, not so much in our own barn, but when watching our team on the road. While I understand, and appreciate, that you may not consider this tradition to be respectful of our great country, that really isn’t the point. Chicagoans cheer the anthem because it has become our tradition of respect and support of our country. Yes, this may be different than the solemn reverence that is tradition in Nashville, but the argument that it is disrespectful needs to stop. You know, as well as anyone, that we don’t do it to be disrespectful. You may not like it, which is fine and absolutely your prerogative, but you have no right to determine my own traditions or how I choose to pay my respects to my country. Cheering the anthem doesn’t hurt anyone. What’s disrespectful is condemning another’s right to innocently express their patriotism, regardless of the location. I’ll give you another example of something similar. I find the cheer that Predators fans do after a goal to be really annoying. The whole “we’re gonna beat the hell out of you” chant seems childish and disrespectful to me. The minor-league style “on the power play” chant you lead as the PA and the collegiate “hey, you suck” chants also fall under the annoying category. However, these are Nashville’s traditions and I respect the fans’ right to express their support for their team in such a way. Your criticism of Chicagoans cheering the anthem in Nashville holds about as much water as me criticizing the good people of Nashville for taunting the opposing team with threats of beatings in the unfortunate climate of domestic violence currently prevailing in professional sports. There are holes in both buckets. At the end of the day, whether we like them or not, neither tradition hurts anyone. Just as I let it go when the arena is filled with fans chanting about beatings, I encourage you to do the same about cheering the anthem. You may not like it, but your argument that it is disrespectful, simply because it’s not the tradition that you choose to follow, truly deviates from the American spirit you seem so determined to protect.

Also, has the generalization that all Chicago fans in Nashville are drunken, disrespectful buffoons run its course? Obviously, when 9,000 people head to Nashville for the weekend, regardless of their place of origin, some of them are going to get a little out of hand and some of them are simply going to be disrespectful and ignorant people. It’s ridiculous to characterize the entire group that way. I’ve been to Nashville a number of times with lots of people from Chicago. We’ve always been respectful, had engaging conversations with local fans, enjoyed ourselves, had a great time on Broadway, and gone home. Sure, I’ve seen idiots in Carcillo jerseys run their mouths and drink too much. There are just as many idiots in Tootoo jerseys doing the same thing. I try to not to judge a city or fan base on the worst examples. I would hope you could rise above the riffraff and do the same. And stop insisting that the majority of people that come to watch a game in Nashville are bandwagon fans. Chicago has a long tradition of professional hockey. I remember the stories of raucous crowds at the Chicago Stadium and attended many games there as a youth as well. Yes, many of the fans went away for a while when the team and the franchise went through an extended transition period when ownership alienated a previously loyal group. But the soul of Chicago hockey fandom never died. Now, as it was in the early 90s, and for many years prior, the fan base is incredibly strong. So much so that getting a ticket to a game in Chicago, whether you’ve been a fan forever or don’t know what icing is, can be tough. People have started to figure out that getting a ticket in Nashville is easier and spending a weekend on Broadway is a lot of fun. That doesn’t make them uneducated bandwagoners. Again, I ask that you try not to judge a group of people based on the worst examples. I’m trying not to judge Nashville fans by the “rules of hockey” handout that was given to fans at the first game of the playoff series.

Alas, some of these issues may resolve themselves, as the Predators organization takes more steps to keep people from Chicago away. I totally understand it. As one of your posters very astutely pointed out previously, Nashville is a much smaller city and a much younger franchise. Though the team has made good headway in attracting a strong fan base, it’s hard to compete with the sheer population and history that is present in Chicago. I remember how much I hated the Redwings fans that would fill up the United Center when the Hawks were terrible. That said, I also enjoyed the atmosphere it created, with rivaling chants echoing throughout the games. I won’t criticize the Predators for taking such steps, though I hate not being able to get tickets to a game in Nashville. However, if I were a season ticket holder in Nashville, I’d be pissed. I think it should be anyone’s priority to do with their tickets as they please. If I could sell my 4 seats to one playoff game and make enough off of them to pay for the rest of the playoffs, it presents a very intriguing option. You can criticize such a decision all you want, but essentially replacing a free-market economy with more communistic regulations goes against pretty much everything that “God, country, and apple pie,” to coin a phrase, stands for.

Lastly, I think you can find better use of your time and influence than throwing out accusations of articles critical of Nashville written purely for “click-bait” purposes. Yes, Steve Rosenbloom is a blow-hard. We all know that. But his articles, as well as the numerous others that are permeating Chicago media of late, are expressions of the frustration that we are all feeling. Chicago is pissed. The articles out there reflect that. There’s a lot more reporting the news in many of those articles than there is “click-bait.” If I were you, I’d take some enjoyment in knowing that the Predators have been successful in their mission to keep Chicago out and the measures have certainly ruffled at least four feathers, rather than jumping down the throats of anyone that chooses to report such information. It comes across as petty and uninformed.

There’s been a lot of chatter about whether having 10,000 Chicago fans does anything to benefit Nashville’s economy. While there is no doubt that the receipts and taxes associated with so many tourists is not essential for Nashville’s existence, a lot of people make a lot of money on those weekends. Again, while I understand the organizations reasons for doing what they’ve done with ticket sales, if I owned a bar or hotel in the city, I’d be pissed. There’s a bit of a penny-wise, pound-foolish vision in what’s currently being done. It will certainly be interesting to hear what leaders of the local business community have to say if this policy remains in place for the foreseeable future.

So, I hope you’ll take this letter seriously. I did my best to write with a level head and with restraint, lest I also be characterized as a bandwagoner buffoon. I hope you can embrace the rivalry, hate, but tolerate the opposing fans’ traditions, and enjoy what should be some pretty entertaining hockey for years to come. I hope that I’ll be able to enjoy a weekend in Nashville for a game soon, just as I’d hope you’ll continue to experience games in Chicago should you desire it in the future. I’ll look forward to the jeers I’m sure to get in Nashville, so long as they continue to be humorous and respectful. Hopefully the mouth-breathers, both from Chicago and Nashville alike, stay home.

I was too lazy to read it when I first saw it posted to determine if it was worthy or not.

This can be your best moment in sports reporting! Edmonton 4 out of six years wins a Lotto? Guess what the odds of that happening to a franchise are? I'll tell you its almost impossible. So if they can rig the lottery, then they can fix a game, series, championship. To me that means the FBI and congress should investigate. They are cheating fans who pay to see a team perform without bias. The fans are getting ripped off big time. Canada corporations can come into our country where we have 24 teams and take taxpayers money. I don't like it and any person with a half of a wit like you should investigate further. If anything the investigative departments of the US government needs to know. It's funny they talk about Pete Rose and him betting on his team. Who's placing bets now.
