Probably just a nasty bruise. Even if there is a small hand injury, it isn't really serious long term.

the most important thing about the pre-season is getting out of it healthy. especially if your best player is already injured.

I didnt start to think about what it would be like for Toronto to win a championship once I became team President, I've been thinking about it since someone put a stick in my hands. - Brendan Shanahan

Prediction: he misses one week or less.

Spatso will suck and blow on karlssen's bumhole for both having super human healing powers and playing hurt.

Hmm, interesting tidbit that could be the focus of an article all it's own - Karlsson is getting protected minutes out there!

Ottawa is so starved offensively that they can't afford to have him face off against the other team's top players, but rather the middling talent, so that he can put up more points.

And that leads the worst second pairing in hockey to take on other team's top-tier guys.

No wonder they ended the season with a - differential.

As of last week, he hasn't started skating yet, and isn't worried about getting back to help the team.

I get doing that, but you want a 2nd pair that doesnt get filled in every game. just treading water (50% gf/corsi etc) would be fine with Karlsson on your D

Ceci is a strange case, opinions are all over the place on what he is and how good he actually is.

The numbers are not flattering though

Coach loves Ceci. Wants him to be top shut down Dman. Wonder if a Jaros/Ceci partnership is coming.

I don't believe Ottawa is afraid of moving these guys up more quickly.

Players decide outcomes. Chabot played a lot more minutes than any other Dman. If he get big minutes throughout the preseason he starts in Ottawa.

- spatso

It's Pre-season ........ not the regular season. Don't put to much into how anyone plays vs teams with a handful of NHLers coasting through pre- season games.

Ottawa is not going to move up anyone, unless there's room on the roster ............. and in Chabot's case, he's on a two way contract, waiver exempt and there are 7 NHL D Men on one way contracts on the Senators roster............ there's only room for him if there's an injury .............. and IF he plays, and plays well enough to convince Boucher he's ready, then he might stay ................ but as I pointed out before ................ when the Senators hired Paul Boutilier, to (assistant) coach in Belleville that was a clear sign they had Chabot destined to play at the AHL level this season................. until he was ready to play at the NHL level, and there was room.

I have no idea whether he starts in Ottawa or not.

What I will say is you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a boatload of young Dmen who impressed in pre-season over the years.

You are doing what Leafs fans have done for years (and still do sometimes). You are anointing the kid as a saviour before his NHL career, or even his AHL career has started.

Good on him if he can step out of junior and be an effective NHLer, bypassing the AHL.

Karlsson showed fantastic offensive upside in his first year, but was a mess in his own end. It has taken him YEARS to become the best dman in hockey. I won't even entertain the idea that Chabot is the second coming of Karlsson yet. It is just way too soon. Just like I cringe when I hear people make the Liljegren comparison to Karlsson.
The league has never had, and never will have, very many players of Karlsson's calibre.

Spot on.

Last year Chabot dominated at every level. He was named MVP of the WJC. Never achieved by a Dman before. He has done everything the team asked him to do. He played nearly 45 minutes in the gold medal game.

Nobody has said he is the second coming of Karlsson. Karlsson, on the other hand, has said Chabot is more advanced than he was at the same age. Chabot is a far better defensive and physical player than Karlsson was in his first few years.

Players have to win jobs. Chabot is against Jaros, Englund and Harpur fighting for that one open spot. If, as I said before, Chabot gets 23 minutes a game through the exhibition season, he stays in Ottawa.

- spatso

There is ZERO OPEN SPOTS for D men on Ottawa's roster ....... they have seven NHL D Men on one way contracts.

there is only injury replacement space ............. please, tell me where you see an open spot?

Just going by the graphs in the article. Sheltered is a relative term. It doesn't mean they don't see top competition, it means they see it a lot less than a normal top pairing would... and the 2nd pair is stuck picking up the slack.

No problem Ottawa carrying 8 Dmen to start season. Karlsson will not play the first few weeks. There are 2 short term openings on the roster today.

If a player logs 20 plus minutes of regular play he will be staying.

Ottawa needs another Dman that can impact puck possession, especially in terms of getting the puck out of their own end.

Karlsson
Claesson
Phaneuf
Ceci
Borowiecki
Wideman
Oduya
Chabot
Harpur
Englund
Big Slovak kid!

sens injuries are starting to rack up with mac, brasserd, karlssin and now whitee. boucher is afraid to dress tworis and dingel tonight. maybe he learned a valuable lesson that sometimes when you win, you really lose.

dorion is gotta be getting nervous. seems like desperation is already setting in and he's about to foolishly overpay for duchene.
