gonna have to be that guy and point out that betting odds are highly based on betting trends, thus are totally meaningless and perfect for someone like d0pes to use in an argument
- daeth

Trend is no one is betting on the sens. Not sens fans, not nhl fans, not serious gamblers.

Maybe at 40-1 they'll get a few people to take a flyer on the sens.

I don't think that applies to the opening odds?

You would hate it much more if you were a Leafs fan.

Rookie games, like this are meaningless ....... sure it's nice to win, but it's more for coaching staffs to see how these rookies have progressed from previous tournaments or camps.

Heck, Ottawa didn't even dress their best rookies, as they wanted to watch other players, play more minutes.

multiple things are considered with the opening odds. prior betting trends, prior performance, stuff like that. pretty sure it's more or less done via an algorithm at this point.

betting odds are even worse than pre-season power rankings from places like tsn or whatever and we all know how useless power rankings themselves are

Don't be silly! +/- only matters when the player is a Leaf, and the number is a negative.

It's funny that the Sens were also the only team in the playoffs with a negative goal differential over the season. It's like that line-up isn't very good or something.

Oh well, I'm sure the terrible goalscoring ability and awful possession stats won't hold them back this year. Totally sustainable way to play the game!

- Feeling Glucky?

There have been teams, with worse negative goal differential over the season, than the Sens last season .......... who have gone on to win the Cup.

Karlsson was a plus 10 last season, second among D men in blocked shots, had about 50 less giveaways, and six more takeaways, than the Norris trophy winner............... so not nearly as bad as some leaf fans would like to think he is.

So.

It is always best to ignore stats and facts you don't like. Sens fans are masters at this.

The subject was the shootout, but I was thinking more regular season. I think it would be tough to find a team with a worse OT/SO record than the leafs over the past few years (not sure?)

I didn't really care about the shootout yesterday. You always want to see your team win, and see your young prospects do well but ultimately these games are not really about that and the shootout is pretty inconsequential.

I didn't think much of our goaltending in spots though. I am hoping Woll is our best goalie prospect.

How do you reconcile the idea about me LOVING the Sens winning the 28th pick, and nothing else, with ignoring the results

Sounds like I am all to aware of exactly what happened.

You seem obsessed with this 28th pick thing .................are you suggesting the Sens should have thrown games at the end of the season, in order not to make the playoffs, and maybe win the lottery?

Or perhaps you think that players don't like winning in the playoffs, and should just throw a series, so the team can pick a higher first rounder?

Would you have not enjoyed watching the leafs, playing more than one round in the playoffs ........... and would you have been pissed off that they lowered the teams drafting position?

Lauding the 28th pick over Sens fans doesn't bother us, we saw our team play nineteen playoff games this spring ...............are you suggesting you would not have wanted to see the leafs play nineteen or more playoff games????

Senators played 19 playoff games, just this past spring ............. the leafs have only played 13 since the lock out .........twelve years ago.

odds are just a function of where vegas thinks money will go / is going.

they set the odds to low on the sens based on the public's view. they raised the odds in hopes of getting some action.

i doubt even at 40-1 people will place bets on the sens not just replicating last season's fluke run but exceeding it.

i think the need for sens fans to brag about non cup winning playoffs runs stems from never having beaten their rival in the playoffs. Its like "Yea you guys female dog slaped us but we did.....this!...which like you...was not winning the cup"

Don't expect logic from any of these guys. A 50 year history of chronic losing, the Leafs have a nice year and they start talking dynasty. It so easy to laugh at them when they fail.

I have an example. I think Matthews was the right choice by the Leafs. Yet, I think Laine is probably a more talented force and will likely be the calder winner
