Sens fans have been watching their team, in the playoffs, including the Finals, a LOT over the past 12 seasons ........... leaf fans not so much.

Was there a parade for having so many good rookies, at the end of last season?

- D0PPELGANGER

Hey. I loved watching the Sens in the finals, too. Nothing sweeter than the Ducks wiping the floor with them in arguably the most one-sided Cup Finals in recent memory. Look at the bright side, though. You did get to draft Jim O'Brien 29th overall that year as your reward.

But, hey. Alfredsson managed to show the entire league what a coward/punk he is by intentionally shooting the puck at Scott Niedermayer as the period ends.

You should be proud.

That series was humourous. The way Anaheim was ballsy enough to lose a game in Ottawa on purpose just to win the cup on home ice instead of sweeping the Senators. It was spectacular.

In case you missed the boring Leafs news this week, Bank of Nova Scotia paid $800 million for the naming rights to Leaf's Arena. Yes the same bank that opted out of the $20 million 15 year deal it signed for the Sens naming rights. I wonder why BNS disposed of the Sens affiliation at first opportunity (on a really cheap deal) and subsequently granted the highest amount ever paid for such an endorsement to the Leafs. Must be because the Sens are such a hot property. Maybe because they are such a hot ticket in the playoffs.
As for Sens success, last time I checked, the Leafs have wiped their ass with the Sens every time they faced them in the playoffs. Expect more of the same, not this year though, Sens won't be there.

You're late to this "debate" ........... leaf fans, in this thread, for years now have said the only thing that counts is winning the Cup ............ it does not matter how far a team, any team, goes in the playoffs............. if you don't win the Cup, you're a loser and only succeeded in getting a lower drafting position in the process.

So, using the leaf fan logic (in this thread) beating the Senators in the preliminary rounds, and then losing in the second round means absolutely nothing.

The Senators have been to the ECFs twice in the last ten years, and the SCFs once ......... the leaf have never been to the ECFs .......... but according to leaf fans, in this thread, it's meaningless........... because the only measuring stick is winning the Cup.

So you can prattle on about off ice crap, like licensing deals and whatever, it doesn't mean a thing......... it's pathetic if that's all you have to laud about...........

I have no idea. But he's talking about winning the cup being all that matters. So I guess the Leafs having the 2nd most in league history is a good thing?

Or maybe it has something to do with his 12 year fascination?

I'm pretty sure the Leafs have won every single playoff battle vs the sens. Pretty pathetic to never have beaten your biggest rival when you've met in the playoffs. I mean...this is a Leafs vs sens thread isn't it? So he could be anger ranting about that?

But I'm just guessing here. It was tldr, plus it was a DO0opps rant so.....

Must have gone to the trump school of public speaking. You'd think he would Google it to at least see if it's true. Then again DO0opps is like 75 years old and probably suffers memory loss.

If you took the time to read the purpose of this thread, it poses a question about which organization is in a better position moving forward. The Leafs are a team on the way up, and it has been done in a sustainable fashion. Well financed, well coached, well managed, great talent. Moving up. Will they make the playoffs?
Probably, but it is not a guaranty by any means because injuries are a part of sport and are difficult to predict. Now lets look at the Sens - financially in trouble, owner checking for change in his couch, his best player is a UFA next year and will command big dollars, talent pool is very thin particularly at forward. Top centre woud be a third string centre on Toronto as best and he is a UFA next year. The problem with signing Karlsson and Turris is complicated by a cheap and financially troubled owner and over $20 million in horrible contracts and a fan base that will not pay to see the team - even in the playoffs. Only sellouts in Ottawa are when the Leafs (and their loyal fans) are in town. The two teams are headed in opposite directions - its very obvious, not admitting it will only make the fall more difficult.

Honestly, have you ever tried arguing without a straw man?

The fact that you do that every time, in every thread blows my mind. Like, if you know you don't have an argument, why bother? Given the constant thrashing you take, it can't be pride.

This is what bothers me about the constant remarks about how awesome the sens were in the playoffs and how exciting it was for the fans how much they enjoyed it. How do they know? No one was there....

I think the Sens should be given full marks for making the ecf. It was exciting when the Leafs (never, according to some) did it. As long as the excitement is tempered with the reality it was a Cinderella run, there is no harm imo.

Reality is they're a bubble team with a mostly average roster that is getting older while the league gets younger. Might as well ride the highs before those days are gone and longed for.

Again .............you're late to this debate.......... for example, one leaf fan was mocking Sens fans that Bobby Ryan was NEVER going to re-sign with the Senators, and was 100% going to be a Flyer once he reached UFA status .......

and now you're doing the same thing with another player(s).

If all you have, to laud over the Senators, is hypothetical non-signings in the future , then you have nothing.

I'd laud the Sens for signing that contract. It's awful and that's why I love it. Problem is, you used laud in the opposite manor of what it actually means. Gotta admit I'm not shocked.

Laud is to praise. It also means never making an efc. If your point is made on words you don't know the definition of, then you have nothing.

Did not think the poster I was responding to, could explain it ............ and neither can you.

leafs were the worst team in the NHL last season, and it's going to be a long long road back to even contending for a wildcard spot ........ perhaps 5 more years , and then another few seasons before they can even think about winning a first round series, and by that time they'll be in Cap problems and management will have to start another re-build .......... the typical leaf cycle that we've all seen over the past two decades.

- D0PPELGANGER

Nothing better than living in the selective past.

How does any of that show who's better? You think that these stats you post mean that the sens will continue at those levels and the leafs will continue at theirs?

Leafs are set up beautify with tons of talent and their cap situation is exceptional. Get used to a reversal of those numbers in the near future.

It's too bad the league Started decades before the "lock out".

Leafs have the Second most cups in NHL history. The sens have 0.

Congrats on the whole "since the lock out" thing though.

Leafs and sens have met in the playoffs 4 times.

Leafs won 4 of those Series

sens won 0 of those series.

The whole "since the lockout" thing is making Sense now.

If there are two nhl teams being compared ......... then if one finishes ahead of the other much more often than than vice vera .......... over a recent period of time (since the lockout) then most people would suggest that the team that finished ahead of the other more often, makes the playoff more often is the better team.

If one team goes further in the playoffs, over the same period of time, and makes it to the ECFs a couple of times, and the SCFs once as well, while the other team failed to get past the first round (since the lockout) ........... then I'd be pretty safe in saying that most level headed people would say the Senators have been the better of the the two Ontario teams, since the lockout.

If you have to go back well over 50 years to feel good about a team in the present ...... then that's what you have to do.

I suspect you've never seen the leafs play in the SCFs in your lifetime, yet.......... but most Senator fans have.
