Another disappointing round of inadequate comments. Most Leaf fan are pretty astute hockey observers. But, except for Prock, most of you guys are pretty feeble when it comes to your hockey awareness.

I am constantly disappointed by the quality of your commentary.

Says the guy who just yesterday posted some rambling nonsensical bullpoop about what a #2 dman is

So Spatso is taking it out on Leaf fans that his geezer team signed another geezer. The old Sens getting older. Theyll get younger when they trade Karlsson and replace him with a better player in Chabot.

Who said Condon was great??? The turds had a .564 pts % with him in net. And a .675 pts % with Anderson in net. And Condon wasn't bad last year, he was pretty average.

Anderson had an exceptional year, for him. Pretty close to career. And the turds pts% was .675 with him in net.

so if you're argument is that they didn't need great goaltending to win, and you're pointing to Condon playing half the games, you've failed quite miserably. With Condon in net, the turds played to the place of about 11th place. I think when you look at how the team was with Condon, it's quite clear they needed the goaltending to carry them.

Who? GreatGigInTheSky

It means the team system revolves around trying to allow as little shots as possible and having all your players on the ice block the path to the net. Just like the way the Rangers played in their own zone for so many years. Also means you're being hemmed in your own zone a lot.

And still, your goaltending is what got you to the playoffs.

No, not "lucky goaltending". Great goaltending. It's highly unlikely that the goaltending, which was the backbone of the team, will be as great next season.

overall the turds got VERY good goaktending. condom was decent. average. Anderson would probably have been in contention for the vezina if he played like that the full year. but he never plays a full season. Anderson played about as well as he has his entire career. but it's unlikely to repeat. especially at his age.

Sorry, it is pretty basic. #2 is not your 2nd best Dman. #2 plays with #1 and plays the defensive more physical, complementary role. #3 is the lead Dman on your second unit. #4 is paired with #3. #5 and #6 play together on your 3rd unit.

Not sure Karlsson would be an effective #2. Not sure Chabot is suited to play as a number 2.

I am fine with Chabot as a 3 or 5. He will not be a #1 in OTTAWA for many years. I am also okay with Ottawa being open to dealing Chabot. I was not in favour of Chabot for Drouin. It was discussed extensively. But there are young players that make sense. If Draisaitl holds out for $75m. over 8 years Edmonton gets caught in a Wicked squeeze. They will do what is best for the Oilers. But I just don't see them wanting to start next year with $28.5m committed to 3 centres.

Chabot is the real deal. Lots of scouts think he is going to be a dominate NHL Dman. I don't if he is as good as the scouting services report. He might be better. But, very good chance, his trade value may never be higher than it is today.

Unlike most Sens fans, I would be open to dealing Chabot for a substantial piece coming back.

- spatso

How does Chabot, with a grand total of 7:06 minutes of NHL ice time.........command a "substantial piece coming back"

Can you point to an example of something similar happening ever?

Condom played over his head
- Aetherial

So Mike Condon has played in two NHL seasons ..........55 games with the Canadiens, and 40 with the Senators ............ and his "numbers" improved in his second year.

So that is now the definition of "playing over his head", having a better season after your rookie season?

So if Matthews puts up one more point than last season, will that also be termed as playing over his head?

Yeah, I guess attending Princeton University for four years was a bad life choice for Mike, and the three seasons in the AHL/ECHL too, I guess.

I think Matthews gets more points but it's hard to score 40 in this league and I don't see him matching that total. At least not likely next year.

Yea, I'm sure if he was offered an NHL contract earlier, he would have turned it down to stay in school.

I think you are correct. My guess is that Anderson gets about the same amount of work this year as last year. He was strong in playoffs and at end of season because he was rested.

Ummm said no one ever. The point was that he was never really seen as a prospect, and genaraly on who break through that late typically don't continue to exceed previous years. Hell his wasn't even break through, because he just finally managed to break into the NHL at a late age.

Has nothing to do with this. plenty of guys have gone university route and still managed to see NHL action before 26. Stop it.

Hard call. I think, as Lamerello says, the Leafs get played much harder by other teams. I think Matthews, because of his size, will handle this better than others. I don't see a big fall off for Matthews.

Don't allow yourself to be confused by research or facts. Perhaps you need to look at the number of goalies that actually come out early.

Name another goaltender, who completed his four years at University, and stepped right into the NHL.

Don't use Ken Dryden as an example, as he only attended Cornell University for two years, and debuted with the Canadiens at age 24.

Thank you for my making my point don't you think that you can't find examples means this it's less likely for condon to succeed ?

Most successful NHL goalies that went to college usually leave after 3rd year, and spend time in the ahl and still manage to see NHL action before 24.

Edit: and condon didn't start college till a year after most (19). GUys like Schneider and miller didn't wait till 19yr old to go to college

Edit 2.0: only example I can find of goalie 4 yrs of college so far is Curtis mcelhinney which is hilarious ironic and he made NHL debut before debut before 26
