So, have the Leafs put out an offer on the table for Markov? I am excited by the possibility
- spatso

Don't think they're going to be signing anyone anytime soon ............ I'm hearing rumours that the reason they've yet to sign Connor Brown is either because of the obvious Cap issues ........ or, they're planning on trading him for much needed defensive help.

A rumour, I know, but perhaps some of the leaf fans here might be able to elaborate on this issue.

Also heard the leaf had to "settle" on McElhinney as their back up, because he was cheap, and could not lure a better back up, also because of the financial limitations caused by their current cap problems.

The leafs goal tending is another weak spot, on their roster. If Andersen slips in his second year of being a starter, or is out of the line up for an extended period of time, McElhinney may not be able to shoulder the load as well as other options the leafs explored for the back up position, but were unable to sign ............ mainly for cap reasons.

These are rumours, and things I've heard .............. so obviously the trolls will not set the record straight........ because a Sens fan heard them, and commented of them, and not a leaf fan .............. so unleash your insult laden diatribes.

Kessel on young Leafs: 'It's always tougher the second year'

Phil Kessel explains why he comes back to Toronto in the off season and sheds light on the current Maple Leafs and the pressure that awaits the young team.

So, I think this is why lamerello has added the geezers and entertaining adding Markov to blueline. Hilarious. Love it.

- spatso

Wouldn't that be the smart choice then?

2016 non Leafs fans - Leafs won't do anything this year. Too young. Not enough experience to insulate them like the Pens and Hawks

Leafs sign veterans to help the kids.

2017 non Leafs fans - Ha!. Leafs getting older

The real truth is Toronto can't afford to pay anyone !!!!!!

Matthews and Marner have already been traded. The Leafs just don't want it leaked yet so they can sell games out first before fans know the truth and stop going!!!!!

Hilarious.Love it. Summer talk.

Leafs ownership don't care about winning. They make so much money regardless of how the team does.
They'll never truly do a rebuild. Too impatient. Always want to win now.
The Leafs have too many guy's thinking they're the GM. It won't work.
Lou is too old
Babcock will be fired after his 2nd year in charge

They're not trading him. The reason no on could shed light on what you said was because what you said was garbage. They dont have cap issue and they're not trading him.

Is brown the only Rfa in the league not signed?

he just hasn't signed yet. not a big deal. Lou has already said Brown will be a Leaf to start the season. Matthews was signed until late in the summer last year.

Just about every team has players not signed yet. The season is still months away. it's your troll job that's a bit too early.

I had a great day of hockey talk yesterday with lots of fans and one well connected insider. Like most true insiders he says nothing about what is going on with the Sens.

Fans are really pumped for next year.

A few Leaf and Canadien fans present. Leaf fans are very high in expectations for next year. Both Montreal fans thought Bergeron had to go for the team to improve.

Great equivalent !

Karlsson has two years left on his (signed) contract ....... and Connor Brown's contract expired on July 1st, and has yet to be re-signed.

You always come up with excellent comparisons, that show your true knowledge on the issues being discussed.

Where ever you got your rumours is bad because they're garbage. Leafs don't have cap problems. The leafs didn't sign Mcbackup because they couldn't afford better options, they signed him because the other guy they tried to sign got 3 yrs (and way too much money) from a dumb team in the same province. They could have signed him but they smartly found a similar option for less money and less term.

There are, however, questions as to whether the Leafs have the summertime cap space to sign Brown. Teams can exceed the cap by 10 per cent, or to a limit of $82.5 million. The website capfriendly.com dug through the terms of the collective bargaining agreement, determining the Leafs didn’t have enough space to sign Brown to an amount equal to his value — around $3 million US a year — without the Leafs making a trade or two.

A source within the Maple Leafs told the Star the team indeed does have the cap space according to their reading of the collective bargaining agreement, but would not provide specifics. Lamoriello was due to talk Wednesday at the conclusion of the team’s development camp for its top prospects.

Connor Brown is in no-man’s land, contract-wise.

The maple leafs want to re-sign their restricted free agent, but are unable to do so without going over the NHL’s summertime salary cap.

The maple leafs can not match an offer sheet of more than $1.15 million, meaning they are at risk of losing Brown, a 20-goal scorer and one of their impressive rookies from last season.

That’s why trade rumours are swirling around the team. Teams know the leafs are seeking relief from their salary-cap bind, and are targetting some of their veterans. Tyler Bozak’s name has been linked to the New York Rangers and the Pittsburgh Penguins.
