The Leafs make more money than any other team! why do they act like there is a salary cap in place!?

I think dopps and spasto are a bit on edge, hearing the Phaneuf for Dustin Brown rumour.

Seems like Dorion might be thinking that the best way to get out of a bad trade is to make a worse one.

Shanahan has made some very good moves. The best was the adoption of an internal cap consistent with their long term strategy.

I wouldn't call it an internal cap. They spend alot to have players they don't deem worthy to stay away from the big club. They'll spend as much as they have to but have done a great job keeping it off the actual cap hit.

Makes sense. They tried to get out from bad contracts by trading for Phaneuf but inherited a worse mess instead.

At some point, people have to admit the Phaneuf trade was hilariously bad for the Sens.

An improbable glory run ending up with the coveted 28th pick and losing Methot just highlights what a stupid move it was to get him.

Your bitterness over the glory run masks your lack of understanding about the great young Dmen working their way through the Ottawa system.

Phaneuf played outstanding hockey during the great playoff run. He had a great season. Dorion is a cool customer he will figure it out.

Sens said in the weeks after playoffs that they wanted to keep Karlsson, Methot, Phaneuf and Ceci. Dorion said he expects that Harpur and CHabot will make the team. No doubt Ottawa has lots of good young Dmen

It's funny how you keep saying that, yet they asked dion to waive to be exposed in expansion draft and then ended up losing methot in expansion draft. They made no attempt to make a deal to protect methot and when vegas delt him days later the sens wanted him back so much so they couldn't part with a scrub prospect and a mid range pick.

Surely you can see the contradiction going on between what you're saying and the actions of the team? Seems quite clear......

I honestly can't believe the Leafs got out of Dion's contract as easily as they did.

Viscious!

Insensitive?

Perhaps a little harsh for summer talk?

Remember this is the B team of the Leaf commentariat. If you scorch them too deeply they will run away and hide.

They take great delight in believing they are big and powerful. They become somewhat despondent when reminded that they have been inept and mostly redundant for more than 50 years.

If I remember correctly they got the lowest ranking ever as a sports franchise by ESPN because of their perststant ineptitude. Remarkably it is symbolically character shaping for many of the Leaf supporters posting on this thread. Even though they post differently they understand and share a premordial awareness of betrayal. For so many years, hopes have been raised only to be shattered by the reality of Leaf front office incompetence.

Is this new group a change from the Keystone Kops of the last 50 years? I think so. I hope so.

But we cannot forget. It is just a few years ago that we watched in horror as a Leaf team put on one of the most disgraceful performances ever as they collapsed against the Bruins in the third period. Kessel was blamed and run out of town. It was said by Leaf fans no team could ever win a Stanley Cup with Phil Kessel in their line up. Phil paid for his sins by being banished to a team that has won two Stanley Cups since his arrival. It is all so complex. Yet, if nothing changes, if losing repeats as a pattern, maybe, the curse of Harold Ballard is real.

I believe Leaf fans have a huge ineptitude complex. Individually they are smart, well studied hockey fans. But put them into a group and they turn into a pack of rabid dogs desperate for an an answer to their eternal suffering. Despite all their protestations to the opposite they still tremble in fear. They believe in the inevitability of failure, they support a culture of doubt. Despite all the positive signs from last year, somehow, Leaf fans still wonder if they are destined to collapse again. Serious consideration should be given to starting this season with an exorcism at center ice on opening night. Time to let go of all the feelings of bitterness and betrayal. Let the demons go. For far too long you have had to live with shame and ridicule. Now is the time to cast the demons out.

I was sure the Leafs would have had to add picks or prospects... even with taking on the dead weight they did

Further to @TSNRyanRishaug McDavid mention, hearing deal will be around $13.25M for 8 yrs. Big win for EDM to get that term, as opposed to 5

Agreed.

The dead weight all had only 1 year left on their deals. There was literally no downside to the deal. Just outstanding.

Chabot: My goal is to start the season in Ottawa
After an impressive season with the Saint John's Seadogs that saw him named the playoff MVP and defenceman of the year, and a World Juniors that saw him named defenceman of the tournament, Thomas Chabot has one goal coming into this season - to make the Ottawa Senators.

Lots of action on Condon...If this is Anderson's last year, the contract with Condon has something to do with facilitating the transition.
