I don't think we're solving their cap issues, to be honest, just pushing them back a year. And I don't really think they can compete for a cup, swapping out retained JVR for Hjalmarsson, either. They may get JVR out of it, but they get him for one year, then they have nothing.

I don't really care what we do for their cap problems, if it helps us.

$4.1M cap hit is reasonable for what he brings, I think.

But if it's picks and prospects, as you say, I'm not too keen on paying a high price either.

if it's picks/prospects, than i think it's something similar to johnny boychuk - a 2nd and 3rd. maybe leivo and vailev is close.

which makes me think, if its jvr @ 50% for hammer, hawks are adding something decent.

i never said solving their cap problems, just helping it.

I dont see JVR as the piece, but they could always flip him at the deadline when his contract is up. Of course so could the Leafs

That's true, I guess you also have to look at it as the Leafs giving up a couple of good draft picks, because a 30 goal scorer at that price as a rental could get a decent package.

A good veteran solid stay at home guy. It's just what the doctor ordered for the Leafs though. And his contract is decent. And doesn't go too long either.

I wonder if it's still a great trade. I mean, they dumped $15M in salary right? They just had to pick up $35M. No biggie.

Anyone else think the Nashville goal should have been allowed? Just because one guy, the offensive zone ref, lost sight of the puck, should not mean his call can't be reversed ......... everyone else watching the game saw that the puck was not covered.

That was pretty bad.

How come they can overturn a goal because a player's skate might have been hovering an inch above the blue line, but they can't get a situation like last night right.

I don't buy for a second that blowing the whistle caused all the Penguin plaayers to suddenly stop playing and then the puck went in, so that excuse for the stupidity is BS.

OK Sens fans what is going to be the narrative so you being so happy (rightly so) when Dion waives, after trying to convince us how valuable he is.

Sens fans are will be celebrating for DAYS if Dion waives and is claimed.

He won't be claimed. Let's get real. No one would take him, even for free. Same goes for Booby Ryan.

If the sens toss in a pick, they can maybe trade him for someone like David Clarkson, to give themselves a little salary/cap relief. But that's about it.

The goal Hornqvist banked off the army of Rinne was a direct result of Hornqvist also slightly bumping into Rinne's arm...

Well leaf fans have been saying for a couple of years now that his contract is so terrible, and it would be a good thing if Ottawa were able to get it off their books.

IF he decides to waive, and allow Ottawa to expose him, and protect another D-man........... then I would see that as good for Ottawa.

If he's taken in the ED, first I would be surprised, but would be able to live with his loss, as Ottawa has at least two D-men in Claesson and Harpur that could fill in the spot his departure would leave .................... but I doubt that LV would take him........ they would be better off with a younger player.

I doubt he waives, unless a deal is worked out, ensuring that he stays in Ottawa......... talk is that he loves it here and does not want to leave ........... so if he's shown proof of a deal, then he waives, if not, he does not.

yes, you're correct, and his arm was late getting to the post to cover the short side, and resulted in the goal.

I think he jumps at the chance to finish out his career in Vegas.

I also think Vegas claims him if available. They will need some serviceable veteran Dmen and won't be in cap trouble for many years yet.

It's a good play by Senators but contradicts the notion that Phaneuf is so damn awesome that spatso has been spouting off

Happy in Ottawa and loves It there….. I’m betting he’s happy anywhere a team is willing to pay his bloated contract.

But yeah, my guess is he waives, in the hopes that he maybe plays out his contract in a warm city with a bit more liveliness.

But they won’t take him.
