The Canadian Tire Centre wasn't sold out?
2000 empty seats on the warmest day in Ottawa in 7 months.

The Leafs get more fans standing outside the building than the Sens inside

Because he doesn't recognize that when they take a bad shot that his guys recover, and turn into zone time and pressure, that results in a net negative for those guys.

I've explained this like 6 times now.

a) this makes no sense.
b) It sounds like you're trying to make assumptions on who recovers the puck, and
c) it's not a statistically negative thing for them, in fact, it's Corsi favourable, UNTIL the other team manages to take the puck back up ice, and get a shot attempt of their own, and even then, you're assuming the same line is on the ice.

Nobody is padding thier corsi stats, maybe a few extra shots here and there over a season.

There are lots of other stats to debunk that stuff, shot distances and DH/LD areas.

- senstroll

So you think it happens, just not much?

I think you guys are naive. Small numbers swing players from one end of the spectrum to the other, for Corsi.

These guys know people pay attention to them, and their salaries to some extent are influenced by them. If you don't think they'll try to improve them, you're kidding yourself.

Obviously their focus out there is to win a game, but if they have the chance, to make one small play vs another (for example, a dump into the corner, vs a long ranges shot on net), there are definitely instances they'll take the one that will help out their possession stats. Not all of them, but certainly some. It's naive to think, that when it could conceivably get them a couple of hundred thousand dollars a year more, they won't try it.

I wonder why that is?

Perhaps it's the downtown location, and easy public transit access of the ACC, in a Metropolitan City population of 6.2 Million (2016 census) versus a suburban location, with terrible public transit access of the CTC, in a Metropolitan City population of 1.3 Million?

Perhaps it has something to do with the largest employer in Ottawa (aprox 40%) screwing up their pay system well over a year ago, and people are unsure if they're going to get paid from one week to another, because the pay system issues are still unresolved?

Perhaps it's the stupid parking lot at the CTC, and how it's an PITA to get out of it after a game?

Perhaps it's the higher priced tickets for games, and the jacked up prices for parking in the playoffs?

Perhaps it's all of the above.

Still higher attendance than the leafs games, in the second .................. oh wait!

There just aren't very many Sens fans if we want to deal in facts instead of excuses.

Well I'm a Sens fan ............. who lives about 2km west of Bank Street (south) and the location of the Arena is a deterrent to me when deciding to go to games...... traffic, poor OC transpo connections. The last game I went this season, the parking was $18, I think, and they've increased it for the playoffs ........... so I'm guessing in the $25 range. So there are a lot of reasons, for people, to decide for themselves if it's worth it to go to games.

If I go to game five, I'll have a better look at things for myself.

We get it.. the cost of the experience is not worth it to you.

Based on the attendance yesterday there are a lot of fickle whiny fans like you around Ottawa

In Toronto it's a 40 minute drive and $20 parking to get to your neighbour's house. Also, let's not pretend there isn't a subway station (union) near the ACC.

It takes longer to get around the GTA than it does to go from downtown Ottawa to their poopty rink. That doesn't affect attendance here because there are millions of people that want to see the game. Ottawa's much smaller population combined with a lot of people not even being Senator fans in the Ottawa area (lots of Bruins, Habs, and Leafs fans) is why there are empty seats. It has nothing to do with location*. That's just an excuse.

Has this thread been reduced to Leafs vs Sens, who has the greater population?

I'm pretty sure we could have saved 700 pages and countless time. ( could have been used on the pizza/beer/wings machine )

this entire thread is an atrocity. if aliens came down to earth and used this thread to judge our intelligence they'd squish us like the insignificant ants we are. i assure you the "sens can't fill their building" talk isn't even close to the low point of this thread.

a) this makes no sense.

- prock

a) it does.
b) firing the puck at the net is almost never a bad idea - if your team maintains possession, then who the (frank) cares that a guy took a shot? Coaches preach this, and it's corsi favourable, because that line kept possession, WHICH IS WHAT THE (frank)ING STAT TRACKS. And again, if every game this hypothetical guy is taking blatantly dumb shots, the coach will have something to say about that.
c)If the guy is taking dumb shots that consistently result in turn-overs, and cost his team in terms of possession, then it's going to come back to haunt him.
