I have read people discussing the "Loser Point". basically Its more of a regulation Tie and they play for the extra point.

You get the point for ending the game tied not losing in OT/SO.

- senstroll

loser point can mean anything.

like being the one and only team that's in the playoffs that has given up more goals than they've scored. at that point you're a loser of a team. see. loser point.

I think what you are saying is the Leafs have 15 ties and the Sens have 10 loser points

The best part is neither play for the Sens. But Bobby Ryan and Pageau do.

Every day I wake up I am thankful the leafs tanked when they did.

Matthews is not in the Crosby/Mcdavid realm, but its starting to feel like he will be in the space between them and Tavares/Stamkos etc.. a notch above them.

Yep. I've been preaching this for years. The teams benefitting from 3 point games are the shootout winners. Those are the real jokers.

You can tack in OT winners, as well. 90% of those games, prior to adding the third point, ended in a tie. Now, down to 3 on 3, with a 3 point game, it's really the SO and OT win points that don't belong.

Well, I'd use that phrase pretty loosely. Bobby Ryan throws a sweater on, and gets on the ice, but does he really play for the Sens? Is it hockey he's playing?

The destruction of Spatso and D0PPELGANGER in this thread is absolutely barbaric.

I'd be fine with just going back to ties, after three periods, in the regular season.

The NHL moved away from ties, because they felt fans, mainly in the US, didn't like games ending in ties ...... and now after 5 mins of 3 on 3, and the stupid shootout, it feels like a waste of time and energy, and it probably wouldn't change much at the end of the season if they just stuck with ties ........... and we'd all get home a half and hour earlier.

I don't mind it much for entertainment value. I actually find it kind of fun to watch. But I do feel like they are chincy points, that they're not really earning for playing hockey.

With a tie game, it's obviously a close game, most people are happy to stay an extra half hour.

Honestly, if you think the games take too long, you should advocate more for the rule that they've been using in international hockey for years. You have 10 seconds to get to the faceoff dot, or the ref drops the puck, whether you're there or not. That's partially why international games tend to be shorter.

I thought they were contemplating bringing that into the NHL a few years back.

The irony is that as you begin to look retrospectively at what I said you can see that I thought Matthews was the right pick for the Leafs.

I love how he now conveniently omits his yapping about Laine being better, winning the Calder, etc.

Auston Matthews is already among the best forwards in the division, as a rookie. Top 20 in scoring, good two way player. Quite possible he's considered a top 5 NHL forward next year. If he plays the full season with Nylander, 85-90 points is not out of the question.
