How do you feel about Rask? Are you confident in him down the stretch and into the playoffs?

Last 14 days for Rask.

1 win
3.71 GAA
.867 sv%

- daeth

I can't speak to the TB or Edm games....although the stats look bad.

I know he was good in the Ottawa game (despite the loss) I don't think he had a chance in hell of stopping any of the goals in that game.

like I said, goalies are streaky. Andersen only won 3 games the entire month of Feb and his sv% was comfortably in the .800's

if you look at the whole body of work I'd still take rask

Rask is pretty much Boston's only real problem this year. With even half decent goaltending they're playing for the division lead right now instead of fighting for their lives to even make the playoffs.

Love hot takes from non fans.

Rask has struggled since xmas but to say he is the only real problem is sooooo cute.

Dellow wrote a bit about 1 goal Games last week.

Mike Babcock, 2007-17, one-goal games: .487.

But yeah the leafs have a bad record in 1 goal games this season. But I am not sure that means much when it comes to the playoffs

- senstroll

Wondering, do you know how many playoff series Babcock has won in the last ten years?

I still feel Rask is a top 5-7 goalie in this league. When he's hot he is easily top 5 and when he's not he slides out so it's probably a fair average.

I have never been his biggest fan because I feel he wears down in the second half due to his lack of size(weight and muscle)compared to guys like Price.

The year he helped carry the team to the finals was a shortened year so I think that also shows that the trend is real.

All that being said, hockey fans(sports fans in general) are super fickle and are pretty quick to try write a guy off after a few months of struggles despite a solid career. Rask was never and will never be the best goalie in the league, but yeah I'm confident he can play in that top 10 range down the stretch.

Bruins were a one line team almost all year. If they ever get some consistent secondary scoring to match their top ten PP and PK it would go just as far to helping be successful as having Rask steal game after game IMO.

It looks like 4 of the last 5 winners have had excellent 1 goal game records. Beyond these recent years there doesn't appear to be any pattern though.

I'm not sure if you're aware of the fact that they only had a single backup win at the halfway point of the season?

Rask was the only reason at xmas, they weren't basement dwellers. Around this time Marchand caught fire and the narrative rightly shifted.

Khubodin went down to the AHL 3 times I think. They tried Mcintyre, they kicked tires on different guys at the deadline.

I think if they ever found a truly solid backup who could play 25 games and win around half of them they would be in great shape at the position.

Rask playing 55 games is ideal IMO. He has played way above that the past 3 years and it shows.

You're taking past results into account way too much when discussing his current play imo. On his career no doubt he's been very good, and he still has the potential to regain form. Outside of a few goalies most aren't all that consistent from year to year. See Bob last year compared to this year for an example. That's mainly what separates guys like Price from the pack, the year to year consistency.

Entering last night Toronto wasn't far behind Boston in backup wins. They showed the stat last night. Pitiful lol.

When it comes to playoffs, body of work doesn't matter. What matters is how they're playing at that time. Andersen had a bad spell early on, but has been hot lately.

I heard, on local Sports radio, that he had only won one playoff series, in the last ten years ............ but that could not have been right.

Perhaps it's one playoff series win, in his last 10 playoff series?

Just sounded odd.

Indeed and I think it's somewhat of a forgotten stat these days. Having horrible backup goaltending vs average backup goaltending could mean 12-15 points in the standings.

you're as close to being on the outside of the playoff picture as you are of catching Ottawa.........and have probably the hardest remaining schedule of any team fighting for a playoff spot.

I'd hold off on counting those chickens if I were you......they haven't hatched just yet.

I can't speak for other sens fans, but playing the leafs in the first round, regardless of who finishes where, doesn't make me nervous at all. of all the potential 1st round matchups the leafs are probably the easiest.

if you gave me the option of playing montreal, boston, new York, or Toronto in the 1st round I'm taking the leafs EVERY TIME. you need good goaltending and good defence to win in the playoffs, and the leafs have neither.

- sensarmy_11

Eggs have already hatched. At this point everything is a bonus this season.

You also need to be able to score to win. Ottawa has severe issues there.

His play hasn't been a start to finish disaster since xmas but the slumps were longer and more frequent and he needs to be responsible for that due to his compensation and spot on the team.

I'm fairly critical of Rask. I think for the money he makes he needs to own a little more of the failures of the team when they struggle but this chatter the past couple weeks has been a little too far off the mark IMO.

Looked good last night. Hope to see it continue.

Last 10 years - 10 playoff series won by Babcock, including a cup.(this is the end goal, not conference wins)

3 out of his last 10 series he's played in he's won. Though the 10th one(counting backwards) was a stanley cup final, so he'd won 3 leading up to that.

you also need to be able to stop the other team from scoring..........Toronto is equally as bad at keeping the puck out as Ottawa is at putting it in.

of the 2 issues I think Ottawa, with their roster, is much more likely to figure out their scoring woes then the leafs are to learn how to play defence.
