I wouldn't bother thinking about it because I don't care. the winner of the Atlantic division is rather meaningless.
- prock

So advancing to the Conference finals is meaningless .............. okay.

I guess when your team has never been to the Eastern Conference Finals, then you would see it as unattainable, and I guess, therefore "meaningless".

I like how you ignore the playoff probability column
- Feeling Glucky?

98.4% chance of Senators making the playoffs, a virtual lock, so saw no need to point out the obvious.

Season is a success if SEns are playing playoffs. Playoffs are a sucess if Sens advance beyond first round. Great success if they make it to Conference final. Have not contemplated anything beyond.

I thoguht you were talking regular season.

I also like how you put top-6 in quotes. Like you know that a Sens' top-6 player doesn't really count as one on just about any other team in the league.
- Feeling Glucky?

I like how you totally avoided the fact that Ottawa has the eighth best record in the NHL, the best record in the Atlantic division, whenever someone points it out to you.

Every team has their "top six forwards", and apparently Ottawa's are doing the job, (see above sentence) and doing it better than most of the teams in the NHL.

Why not? They're the best team that will play in that bracket, I'd say.

I haven't. I've stated that being at the top of the Atlantic doesn't mean much when the Atlantic sucks as it does. There were many occasions in the past where teams like Atlanta would win their division, and be 10 points behind the team below them in the official standings.

Being top of the Atlantic this year, means you're facing a team that sits above you in the standings in the first round.

Also, do you feel no sense of hypocrisy using p% instead of total points, after being so against it in the past?

edit: Saying the top-6 is good because they're high in the standings is idiotic. It's like saying the Leafs have an above-average defense, because they have the 14th best record in the NHL. The Sens got lucky in that their back-up had a hot streak while the starter was out. Goaltending has been the main driving force for the Sens this year. It's funny how frequently a hot goalie has made Ottawa fans think their roster isn't awful.

I'm curious to see who they'll trade him for. Based on the Zibby for Brassard trade, I predict Beauchemin... followed by a flock of Sens fans saying he was never really that good, and Beauchemin has turned the team around!

So it's "lucky goal tending" from the Back up goaltender that is the main driving force, that has propelled the Senators to the Eighth Best record in the NHL.

So not the commitment to overall team defense, right?

So of goaltenders in the NHL, who've played at least 20 games, Ottawa's goaltenders sit 31st and 32nd in Shots Against, out of 47 goaltenders.

Last season Ottawa averaged 2.94 GA per game, so far this year they're averaging 2.57 GA per game ........ a dramatic drop, when only averaging 2 less SA per vs last season.

One would think that they would have faced a WHOLE lot more shots, if it was just "lucky goal-tending" as you seem to think.

You're grasping at straws here ....... Ottawa plays a much better team defensive game plan than in the previous season, and you just are not willing to admit it.

fewer shots against per, fewer goals allowed per game, is NOT a lucky back up goaltender.

I think the argument is Anderson has been great but he's a bit old so their window to win with him as their goalie is short.

It's been inconsistent- Anderson, when he's on his game is lights out. When he's not on his game, the Sens are just about a bottom-10 team. As he ages there's gonna be more "off his game" seasons.

Sens have gotten lucky that the hamburglar and condom have been good in stretches where he's been out for one reason or another... but neither goalies numbers held out over the long run, which is why it makes sense to say they were hot at the right time, and not that this team with piss-poor possession numbers is actually elite defensively.

These guys are so lost they think that they can change their point of view from one day to the next and nobody is going to notice.

Some of us have thought from the beginning of the season that the Sens and especially the game plan built around Karlsson is the real deal.

We also think that the Sens have a deep pool of prospects that will be getting ice time next year.

Not sure why the success of the Sens causes some Leaf fans so much anguish?

Calder Trophy debate: Will East Coast bias hurt or help Auston Matthews?

By Michael Traikos, Postmedia Network

......... "The thing to remember is that this is not a case of one player being artificially propped up. Matthews and Laine are very much equals. Even if Matthews were playing in Arizona, he would be in the Calder conversation — although it is worth mentioning that had 19-year-old defenceman Zach Werenski (nine goals, 41 points) been playing in Toronto versus Columbus, the debate would be a lot more interesting" ...........
