That is a judgement based on personal perspective and, no doubt, depends entirely on the Christology you follow.

What happened to the Leafs?

I stayed up late and watched. When I went to bed they were ahead 2-0 and were in full control of the game. I thought they dominated play.

m'eh, that will change significantly next year. remove:

neil - 37
Kelly - 35
Hammond - 28

probably remove:

stalberg - 30
pyatt - 30

insert guys like white, Chabot and that avg age will drop significantly.

I don't have a problem the average age being the second highest in the league, and as you pointed out, a number of older players will not be back with the team next year.

Just threw that out there, as I know the leaf fans usually make a big deal about older teams not really having a good shot at going deep in the playoffs........... but I'm pretty sure I know the reason they're holding back on those sentiments right now, but throughout the season there were all over it, as a huge negative.

yeah, I really am expecting the Leafs to win the cup this year. I really wish we gutted our future to the extent the Sens did in order to get this far.

I'm not sure what sentiments you're referring to. Your post isn't very clear.

But, I think you're a little mistaken. It's not that "older teams have no chance at the cup". It's quite frequently older teams that do have a chance at the cup. As those are the ones with established, experienced veterans on their roster.

I think any rational human being would agree though, all things equal, a younger roster is preferable to an older roster. Younger players can still develop, improving the team. Older players slow down, meaning the team is/will be in a downswing.

An older team, that is at the end of their window, that has taken their shot, and/or won a cup, well, that's the cycle of things. But there will pretty obviously be negative sentiments toward a team that hasn't really had a window, stands no shot, and is full of older, declining players. It's sort of like being at the end of one's "window", and in the Sens case, there hasn't really been a "window".

The issue is their old players are for the most part junk. You don't win cups with a roster full of junk.

Junk may be a little strong. They're certainly not good enough.

guys like Brassard and Turris aren't "junk". They'd be fine as depth centres for a contending team.

When you look at cup winning teams, they almost always have guys that would be top line guys, right through to the third line. And elite guys mingled in the to two lines (more often at centre, but the Hawks had more elite wingers than centres).

Well, yes, they do have more than their fair share of overpaid veteran crap on their roster. Bobby Ryan and Dion Phaneuf, with their contracts, salary and/or cap hit, is enough to make any GM cringe. Burrows is a pretty bad contract. I'd be curious to know if Macarthur's contract is insured, given Melnyk's penny pinching ways.

Ottawa has fared well against the Metro division, I think better than most teams in the Atlantic ............ yes I know, during the regular season, playoffs are always a much harder game, and it's 7 game series for whomever faces the Metro winner in the Conference finals.

During the playoff, most teams ice players, not contracts, so it's a complete waste of time yakking about this contract or that contract when talking about the playoffs.

admit it, the Sens made themselves a better team, heading into the playoffs, by bringing in a few players for depth and an upgrade on their third line, which the coach did not play much, and they were the weakest link ........ but now he does not have a problem putting them out there ........... last night all three "third liners" played about 11 mins or more ............ that's more TOI than Lazar of Neil was ever given.

Now am I saying the Sens are Cup Contenders? No, but they should win at least one round ................... unless they somehow end up facing the Capitals in the first round.
