They would have to raise ticket prices and average of $20.00 each to get tot he NHL average. They have to charge only what the market would be willing to pay before people spend their money somewhere else.

Ottawa has a population just around the 900,000 mark, while toronto is drawing from over 2.6 milion, almost three time the population of Ottawa.

- Doppleganger

The GTA is actually closer to 6.2 Million.

The Golden horseshoe is almost 9 Million.

Yeah the "team is losing money" but Melnyk is making money. He charges the Senators X amount of dollars for the use of the CTC which he owns................makes it easy to claim the "team" is not making money.

With an average ticket price of just over $42.00, each game brings in roughly $816,700.00 based on average attendance figures, so 45 home games would bring in $36.7 Million not including parking and concessions. And on top of that there is radio and TV revenues...........so the team makes enough to pay the players.

The New York Yankees payroll this season is $228,995,945, first in MLB
The Tampa Bay Rays payroll this season is $57,030,272, and the Yankees failed to make the playoffs, while the Rays are in the running for a wild-card spot.

Well they raised the Parking in the Lot I park in..was $11 last year now $16

Thanks for the clarification. That's well over a third of the population of Canada to draw from, and that's why their average ticket price is the NHL's highest.

none of this changes the fact that Melnyk is cheap and Ottawa would be in a much better situation if he was willing to spend the money.

They're not going to win the cup with an internal cap.

He is spending the money generated from ticket sales and the radio and TV revenue streams. He's probably not going to dip into his personal $$$$$.

I don't buy that for a second. Typical Toronto media's "Ski is falling" b.s.

What about your favourite team? The Senators very tiny budget to me has to be a bigger concern than the Leafs cap situation. The cap went way down, yet the aren't even able to spend close to it. Melnyk is not in the greatest of shape.

Really? The first of 82 games and one of four vs the leafs. I usually wait until mid October to take the games seriously enough to care, ad that's when the wheat is separated from the chafe and playoff projections start to come into focus.

Seeing how you've been waiting with baited breath for my "take " on the game last night................here's what I thought.

HNIC had a love fest all night long with Morgan Rielly.
Bernier looked much better than Riemer in spite of his second star status in the pre-season game you and other leaf fans were so orgasmic about.
Karlsson is nowhere near 100% and neither is Speeza. Ryan looked sluggish and out of shape. Mason Raymond looked like a good signing and Turris was Ottawa's best player last night.

So, these games still don't count as much as the rookie tournament?

edit: it's also not the first of 82 games for either team.

Okay, second and third, out of 82 then.

The Rookie tournament is only three games long for each team.

No comment on how Bernier outshone Reimer?

The rookie tournament being shorter makes it more important?

Bernier definitely did do better, best goalie out there last night, no doubt. Good to have 2 capable guys duelling for the spot, and able to fill in when the other has a rough night.

You're still stuck on the rookie tournament, to make a feeble point, and other leaf fans (a few pages back) all were extorting the brilliance of Reimer in a pre season game in which I pointed out he was not "flattered in the Sportnet highlights" but he somehow was the second star, and that my suggestion that Bernier might be considered the starter got all their knickers in a knot.

Did not see the game of any highlights, but hearing on the radio Bernier let in a weak (sharp angle) goal, and the winning goal was kicked in. Surprising as he seemed technically sound vs the Sens.

I listen to multiple radio stations throughout the day, why, what's your point?

Just watched (NHL.com) both Avalanche goals, Bernier looked like he should have had them both.

I'm just wondering if it's one station that you listen to that discusses all topics inaccurately, or if you seek out multiple sources of misinformation.

Interesting that you put the senators above the Leafs, with a lower chance to make the playoffs, and lower goal differential.

As usual, you have trouble with "truth".

Ps. way to deflect from your nonsensical post. At least there's one thing you're good at.
