2013 is still 4 years ago. He was 27. He's almost 32 years old now. Do you realize how much players slow down at this age?

There's no point in even comparing those two.

You can call it idiotic all you want. I firmly believe he will never be a number one dman for a Stanley Cup winning team. That's my opinion. Even if he were traded to another organization. Still no.

Pretty sure everyone but you would call it idiotic which is a pretty good indication that it is in fact completely retarded.

Sundin was never a #1 center on a cup winning team.....he must have really sucked. Ovi hasn't made it out of the 2nd Rd......suppose you wouldn't take him for free either?

Wasn't arguing he's a top dman now......What's that have to do with anything. Does that change the fact that you argued he was a top 10 dman 3-4 years ago when the truth was he wasn't even close.

Even after TOR's recent losing skid, they're still 12th in pts%, 9th in true goal differential (no ENG or SO), 11th in score-adjusted Corsi.

Draglikepull ‏@draglikepull

Basically the Leafs are right around the top third of the league in the major team stats and are in very good position to make the playoffs.

Draglikepull ‏@draglikepull

As long as Andersen stops allowing 5 goals every game.

Crazy busy at work, drove home in snow/freezing rain storm Tuesday night and heard third period of Sens/Blues. Sounded like Sens played a brutal game.

One more week and I head to Florida for 7 weeks. Funny but most of my serious hockey watching is while I am in Florida. Hope to step up my commentary after next week.

talk to us once they vastly improve their defensive corps.
- D0PPELGANGER

And you talk to us when the Sens vastly improve their forwards, their prospect pool, their management, their ownership, their 2-6 dmen, and the durability of what few good players they do have.

Thank you. I fear that after these last two weeks of laughing at your old posts, we may only be down to two, three hundred more gems max before we run out. Renewable resources are important.

And the GM who brought in Clarkson and gave him an un-tradeable, un- buyoutable and un-moveable contact is now, it seems, in charge of the re-build.

But it's okay, this time it's going to work.

What do you mean? The leafs are stuck with their current core players because they all are signed to long term untradable contracts. They will have a tough time retaining all the UFAs and RFAs on their roster for next season as they have essentially zero cap space to re-sign them all. As for signing another saviour UFA like Clarkson, many UFAs are not attracted to the circus like atmosphere that surrounds the leafs.

Ottawa has a wealth of young talent that are getting better game by game, and have tonnes of cap space for next year

sending never won a cup because he was never surrounded by great players. when he did have good players he consistently went deep.

Karlsson isn't number one dman on a cup winning team even if he gets traded to a team that will surround him with great players.

that's my opinion.

Ah! Come on guys, lighten up. Is it so hard to admit that Phaneuf was a great acquisition for the Sens? Does not change the fact that it was also a good ideal for the Leafs in terms of their overall development. Everything looks good from my perspective.

I would never call it a "great acquisition".

Ottawa needed a "Phaneuf type" of D-man for their second pairing, as it was obvious, that after a number of serious injuries and surgeries, that Cowen's time in the NHL was over ....... so they made the trade to unload a bunch of players no longer considered part of their future, and the leafs pretty much did the same thing, but perhaps with more need to free up cap space.

Each team received what they wanted ........ Ottawa now has solid, hard nosed type of D-man for their second pairing, the type that forwards don't necessarily like to stand beside when in front of the net.

Phaneuf plays a steady solid physical type of game, that the Sens need .............nothing more nothing less. The fact that he contributes in other areas, on and off the ice, is just a bonus.

He's not the superstar defenseman you seem to trying to convince yourself, and others he is. leaf fans are happy he's gone, for their money reasons mostly, and Ottawa fans are happy that he fills the physical role that Cowen was earmarked for, but could not, for the aforementioned reasons.......... nothing more nothing less.

This guy will probably find it hard to admit:

Every team has a bad contract or, at least one, they wish were different. In the case of the Leafs the Clarkson and Phaneuf deals are very pricey and really cuts down on their options this off season.
