The leafs, or really leaf fans through increased ticket prices, are paying Approximately 13 Million US Dollars this season, for players who are not on their NHL roster, and never will be.
They include Laich, Michalek, Cowen, Greening, Gleason and of course Kessel.
They lead the NHL in this category, so you should be proud of this.

OTOH, Ottawa does not spend a single dime on any non roster players.

And I love that the Leafs can do that. And have the high end prospects to get it done

I'm proud that my team is doing what it can, all it can and spending what it takes to make the team better and fix mistakes. Isn't that what any fan wants their owner to do? You must be proud your owner isn't doing the same and is penny pinching instead.

I'm shocked they're willing to spend a dime on actual roster players.

I thought Ceci and Phaneuf were fine last night. Really solid in their own end. It is all about scoreboard and Leaf fans are starting to experience their first disordered anxious mood response now that real hockey is being played. They are struggling to get their head around the Leafs giving up 7 goals last night and collapsing down the stretch in Chicago. They fully understand that Dion would help stabilize their young blue line but they do not want to talk about what has now become painfully obvious.

I believe everything is the way it should be. The Leafs need to grow around youth. I think Phaneuf is well suited to the situation with the Sens. Everything looks very good to me.

And they are doing this, HAPPILY, all so they do not have to pay $35M to have Phaneuf ON their NHL roster. Which speaks volumes about Phaneuf.

They can't afford to. But this does not mean they are not spending money on players that should not be on an NHL roster. There are also several players on Ottawa's roster than most NHL teams would actually give the same treatment to as the Leafs gave Phaneuf.

In other words, there are several players that most NHL teams would rather pay to NOT have on their roster, than actually have to play them.

Just wondering, how many leaf games (at the ACC) do you attend a season?

(leafs ave ticket price = $377.71 )

Can't speak for systemtool, but I go to 4 or 5 a year, at the average price of $0.

And the average price of a ticket is absolutely nowhere near $377.71. I can assure you of that.

Not that what they spend on player salary is in any way related to the price of a ticket. You're an idiot if you think it is, and one has to look no further than a team like Phoenix, Carolina, or Tampa, to know that is not the case. Tickets are priced on supply and demand.

If an NHL team can charge more for their tickets, and make a larger profit, they will, and what they can charge for a ticket is in no way, shape or form, related to player payroll. If they can't sell tickets at a price, they lower the prices.

Have you never once in your life seen a supply and demand curve chart? Or do you just not believe in them?

I go to 2 (from the Maritimes) games per year with my wife. Normally November/December and the February/March. Costs me $220 for the pair (face value) from a buddy who lives here.

So less than $450 per year

other than rail tickets, of which there are only about 50 or 100 in the entire ACC, the highest price platinum ticket is $225 per seat, i think. About that anyway.

Average face value is probably in the $150 range. A small portion of tickets go on resale, so average ticket price, even including resale, can't be much more than that.

Whatever it is, it's the start of hearing Sens fans yap about how good their team is when they're all healthy and playing, and them being garbage is just all bad luck

Man, if your team has to whine about losing Kyle Turris, you're biggest problem is not that he's injured, it's that your go-to guy is Kyle (frank)ing Turris.

oh I take that back, Clarke Macarthur, now there is a loss.

What's with the Sens taking on Toronto's sloppy seconds now?

Clarke Macarthur ended up third line on both the Buffalo Sabres and the Leafs, somehow the Sens think he's a difference making second liner? Phaneuf slowly sank down the depth chart over his tenure, pushed back to second pairing at ES, getting gifted some nice PP time to try get an idiot GM to take him.

And it worked.
