Except if you serve an ace and squeeze the juice out of the other guy. We will have a chance to review this all season. i suspect Leaf fans will become as quiet on Phaneuf as they are on Kessel.

So Sens winning the cup?

It's amazing how leafs fans have done a 180 on Dion, since he was traded.
- D0PPELGANGER

A lot of Leafs fans had a hate-on for him, what are you talking about?

The biggest 180 regarding Dion was Sens fans, who were suddenly only teasing when they said he was bad before the trade.

I've seen quite a few Leafs fans on the Pens board congratulating Kessel for the cup win and awesome run, even saying he should have won mvp.

Sens fans are really pumped about the coming season. Bringing in Brassard as a second line center and Chris Kelly as a fourth line center makes them much stronger and more experienced down the middle. Ottawa has acted in the belief that they need to improve on their special teams. They are top 10 when playing 5 on 5.

The second important factor is understanding that all of Dorion's changes are following through on the idea of making this team entirely in Karlsson's image. Every move starting with Murray's trade for Phaneuf, Dorion's hiring of Boucher, trading for Brassard and signing of Kelly are entirely about this team being shaped around Karlsson's skill.

We are moving into stage II of a typical blue koolaid summer. Fans are beginning to notice the stories being floated that Marner might not be fit enough or ready for NHL prime time. Leafs are a last place team, they are sort of like a very young Edmonton crew of last year without McDavid.

But Leaf fans are great hockey fans and now that the silly summer chatter is winding down, they are getting around to a more balanced level of hockey discussion. We will see the Stage III early season euphoria when they win a few games at the beginning of the season and the Toronto based media predicts good things for them. But the Stage III crash into despair will come like clockwork in early December. Stage IV acceptance of reality will include some anger and frustration but it is not long lasting. And, come early March, Stage I starts again with a high degree of hopefulness as speculation of the guaranteed Tavares signing gets ramped up and fans discuss the great potential of the impending lottery and draft.

Where?

Your imagination is off the hook.... Inventing stages.

It's epically ironic that you talk about leafs fans as you do, and then you as a sens fan posts everything you criticize leaf fans for.

this would be one heck of an argument if most leafs fans didnt already anticipate a bottom 10 finish.

i think you are more in line to have your europhia shattered when you realize that the majority of leaf fans do not expect big things this season... who ya gonna troll spatso? a fanbase who has already accepted losing for a couple more years? seems kind of lame to me.

This is a troll free thread where people present their raw beliefs. We have a history that starts back with a frustration and huge disagreement with the Bryan Burke decisions on the rebuild. You cannot proof text a specific entry without understanding the contextual history of our comments.

I am a huge fan of the Shanahan approach to the rebuild. I am a strong critic of the Toronto media and their constant hyping (Stamkos et. al) of short term solutions. I am generally sympathetic to the long term suffering Leaf fans (having been one for most of my life). I have little patience for people who buy into the media hype driven by their own self interest.

I am actually giving a grief workshop this fall and was finishing off some my preparations by sticking in the Leafs and changing a few of the mood descriptions. I thought it was pretty good. And, your right, it likely applies to me and Sens fans in much the same way.

Transferring your shrink's therapy program to a Leaf perspective is interesting, yet I doubt that it was what he/she intended you to do since it doesn't allow you to face your problems directly. Denial can take many forms and can be masked in many ways. A 12 step program might be the way to go to address your issues, and possibly a adjustment in the number of pillows on your shrink's couch to modify the bloodflow to your brain. Throwing out all your Leaf socks and Leaf soap on a rope might help as well, combined with a brisk walk outdoors to curb your anxiety.

The Sens are just a crappier version of the post-lockout Leafs. Eventually, a rebuild will be inevitable, as there is nowhere near enough talent to build a team around. When that happens, you gotta figure it's a 6 to 8 year road back to the playoffs.

That's obviously not gonna start this year, so, I'm guessing it'll be in the 2025 range that the Sens can expect to compete with the best in the division again, if they start now, and manage things smartly.

I forgot the soap on a rope. Yes, I had Leaf soap on a rope. I do work out of a 12 step model and the workshop I'm giving is

There is nothing we can “say or do” that will resolve or correct another person’s loss. But you can provide a calm presence, you can affirm their feelings. You can be empathetic. Empathy enables you to gently step into their shoes and imagine the feelings they are experiencing.

Never said anything bad about him ,my word .His contract was unfortunate but at the time the Leafs where in a corner, lose him for nothing or sign him .Defensemen that can play good top 4 mins are always worth something

You can focus on money, budget, cap and all off ice issues ......... because there is not much else for leaf fans to dwell on.

I focus on how the team(s) play on the ice, and Phaneauf is a better D man than any that the Sens have departed ways with over this year.

Therefore the one ice performance of the Senators has improved, and will continue to improve for the foreseeable future.

Are you arguing that Ottawa would be a better team, on the ice, with any of the D men they've let leave the team, instead of Phaneauf?

The magic number most hear is the 300 game mark ,Zibby is right at that number. Now i never said he cant have a better season than what he has had to date .But he isnt a top line center ,he hasnt shown anything to this point that he will become one .Add in his contract coming up next season ,and you can see why Ottawa made their choice to move on from him .Brassard ,comes in at 3.5 million in actual salary for the next three seasons ,which should buy enough develoment time for the next crop of hopefuls for us in Brown and White

Don't you think it would be so much more fun to have an owner and management team that spouts off about bringing in forensic investigators, puts on lame spartan plays before games, ciphons money out for his debts, won't fully fund a team, thinks his non-playoff team should be contending, and cycles through coaches every year?
