Senators' winger Mark Stone working as a caddie for Sarnia golfer Matt Hill, at the Mackenzie Tour-PGA Tour Canada National Capital Open to Support Our Troops.

He would have golfed in this tournament, but has had few opportunities to play golf, as he's been busy playing in the playoffs, for three of five springs since he's turned pro.

Okay leaf fans, I know you can come up with some good jokes about this ..... let's hear them.

He has what, ONE more playoff game over that timeframe, than Kadri? Less than JVR.

He's gonna have plenty of time going forward, now that he's with Ottawa and not Binghamton.

did he play a game past april with Binghamton?

I don't think first round playoff games, played in April, really cut into golf season too much.

it's just a silly statement.

given that many of the current leafs have been with the Marlies the last few years, they've probably had less of an offseason than Stone.

As most Sens fans know I have no difficulty being critical of the Sens and some of the decisions they take. And there are some players that I really like (e.g. Pageau) and I make no excuses for my choices.

As you should,nt ,most leaf fans after the 7 game loss were claiming how good their team was.It didnt turn out to be the case, but fans have a right to be fans

Leaf fans have been burned by the lies of team management and the hokum served up by the blue and white media trying to hype a deficient product to a highly vulnerable fan base that has been kicked around for more than 10 years. But I believe Shanahan and team management are finally headed in the right direction. They are rebuilding the right way. I think we are seeing a little premature adulation on the part of the desperately hungry fans. It is okay and understandable. I think Leaf fans will be rewarded for their patience but playoff success is still a few years off. No reason you cannot enjoy the growth and excitement of a young hockey team learning how to compete.

Sens fans have been burned by the lies of team management and the hokum served up by the red and mustard media trying to hype a deficient product to a highly vulnerable fan base that has been kicked around for more than 20 years. But I believe Dorion and team management will someday realize the error of their ways and head in the right direction. They are not yet rebuilding the right way. I think we are seeing a little premature adulation on the part of the desperately hungry fans. It is okay and understandable. I think Sens fans will be disappointed with their team's performance this year, and playoff success is a long ways off. No reason you cannot enjoy the excitement of a mediocre hockey team trying in vain to compete.

The Sens are at their peak while the Leafs are in year 1 of building after tearing down the disaster that was their organization. If you're happy with basically being slightly better than them then sure, you win.

So the sens are built to contend NOW, and made changes to that effect this summer but are still in the bottom half of the conference and closer to the leafs (who are in the middle of their rebuild) than the top.

And you think that's in a better spot?

One team is trying hard to win now.

The other team just spent a year trying not to win but be bad enough to get a high pick.

Kinda sad that the team trying hard to win is only viewed as slightly better.

Contend for what?
Are you implying that they're ready to contend for the Cup?
If so where did you get that wild idea?

I've heard the GM mention that his team ready to compete to get into the Playoffs ............. but that's a long way from contending for the Cup.

It does seem to be a silly word to use with the Sens.

What do you call the highest point of a speed bump?

I'm sure that's the type of coaching system that Babcock has brought to toronto, play to lose as many games as possible for the best odds to win the lottery.

If you believe that, then you'll believe just about anything. Face it the leafs last season just sucked, as the management stripped away what they wanted the shed from the team ......... but the coaching staff coached to win, and the players played to win...... but they ended up as the worse team in the NHL.

By your warped logic, the leafs will be in the same position as the Senators in a few seasons (at best) and then you'll "only view them as slightly better" than the bottom feeders below them in the standings, finishing just out of the playoffs and selecting in the middle of the pack at the draft ......... and not going anywhere ......... exactly what you say of the Senators today.

well, the odds (that YOU posted) showed the Sens two places ahead of the Leafs. Just two. You posted them, and that's what people are commenting on.

Two places in the standings can very, very, very easily be made up in ONE season, not "a few". But you're correct, passing the Sens does not mean a playoff spot. Two places in the standings is actually something that could reverse itself just based on a little standard deviation. So, that goes back to my point before, the two teams are close enough, either could finish ahead of the other.
