Understanding and observing projection is relatively simple. When someone is adamant about wanting another person to own a feeling or a behaviour, merely observe the pattern. If, for example, a person is strongly polarized in their views on homosexuality and are intent on identifying people with unresolved sexual identity issues it is likely a statement about their own uncertainty or lack of comfort with their own sexual self. So, for example, the preacher who is always lashing out about the evils of same sex marriage may, in fact, regularly act out (escape) in same sex encounters. His weekly rants (sermons) can be understood as being a reflection of a deeply embedded rejection of his own sexual self.

Now, so tell us again, about all these angry Sens fans. And, perhaps, you might also like to share with us your psycho sexual history in order that we can better understand the underlying sentiment behind your hostile reactions to others.

Way too rich, the irony only gets better after some reflection.

The Leafs were a last place team. The Leafs are a last place team.

Matthews is not McDavid or Eichal or perhaps, even Laine or Puljujarvi. Yet Leaf fans have created this huge expectation around a kid that was not nearly the force of the Finns on the big stages of international hockey last year.

Not sure why the Leafs have delayed in signing him to a contract. Perhaps they think he is going to need some AHL development time. Nobody is hoping against Matthews, he should be a good player. But, there is absolutely nothing in his track record that suggests he will be an impact player in the NHL next year. Perhaps, there is a fatal flaw in the Leaf charism. If Matthews is put out head to head against veteran NHL centres every night and fans expect him to outperform all comers it is going to be a very long and disappointing winter for the blue and white.

I understand the importance of the summer season for Leaf fans. It is an opportunity to renew hope and create a bond with the team in the belief that next year will see the Leafs finally triumph. It is the Oiler model of a few years ago that had Yakupov (like Matthews, an older profile draft pick) dominating scoring in future NHL seasons or RNH being the slickest centre to come along in years.

Always keep in mind the notion that "we are different," is something that is really well understood. We know Matthews is not McDavid, not even close. We want to believe that he is better than Yakupov. Likely he is in the same range as RNH, but he will likely struggle to produce numbers as good as RNH got in his rookie year (18 goals, 34 assists in 64 games).

You mean like Sens fans that used him as one of the arguments for their up-and-coming young team?

- Feeling Glucky?
The leafs of years past deserved the beating they took ,BB didnt bother trying to build his pipeline before claiming the rebuild was complete .The current managment you guys currently have is very good at understanding that either you are winning cups or rebuilding parts of your team to one day win cups .

Ottawa is no different ,we have drafted and seen success and failures, this process will be ongoing until we win .Then we will start it all over again, trading away a player that wasnt viewed as a core piece doesnt change this .We have drafted two pretty good prospects that we hope will fufill the promise all these young guys show when they are first drafted, which is the potential to be great .

The issue here is the players in question are about even, but one had room for improvement, while the other is approaching the end of his prime... and Ottawa threw in a second.

It really doesn't look like a hockey trade - at least not a good one... and throwing picks around isn't helping the already sketchy looking future of the team.

Look i get what people are thinking here ,but we had given Zibby plenty of time and opportunity. 5 years for him to show he was capable of being more .He just never did it ,it happens .And we move on to the next group of kids, hopefully White or Brown can do what we hoped Zibby would do .As for the trade ,we get a good vet that will also act as a transitional piece until hopefully one of the kids in the system prove to be better.

Winning a cup or being in that magical window as a full blown contender .Can take decades, there are just far too many variables ,this trade will likley be one of hundreds that never work out they way most view it on the day is its made .On paper we are better ,is it the right mix????Who knows

Sometimes you really show how little you know about the Ottawa market and the future of the Ottawa Senators............... it's laughable to say the least.

This trade improves Ottawa's PP, which was really predictable last year, and probably the main reason Dave Cameron is gone. Brassard will definitely be an upgrade over Zbad on the PP and the two are pretty much even when 5 on 5.

Dont think anyone thinks Zibby isnt an nhl player. But how good of one is kinda what most are stuck on ,our gm drafted him .And believes that it was time to move on from him, time will tell if its the right play or not,on paper we look like a better team

I like Scott Cullens analysis on stuff

Verdict: Based on last season, Brassard and Zibanejad were similarly productive players with similar enough deployment, and yet the Rangers managed to secure the significantly younger player and get a better draft pick in the deal. It’s possible that Brassard is a better player next season but, given the career stage for both players, it appears likely that Zibanejad will overtake Brassard at some point in the next three seasons. The deal might make sense financially for the Senators but, in hockey terms, this is a win for the Rangers.

I just dont see the Sens adding much more than they gave up for this coming season.
Brassard coming off career highs including an abnormal high 5v5 sh% ..thats likley to regress.

one player will be 29 and trending down from last season and the other probably up... feels like a recipe for a big miss

As you should any hot air coming from Toronto will never look at the other side of the coin in a positive light ,more specifically if that team is Ottawa..Zibby isnt the better player ,and him becoming better is a huge question mark .He had over a min and half more ice time from this season from the last one ,and scored a whopping 5 more points ,while being given two good wingers to work with .Look at Zibby,s stats in his first half hi wingers were literally dragging around the ice ,the 2nd half his spot was taken over by our 3rd line center playing with our 4th line one in ZSmith .He isnt as good as people are dreaming he will be

Except a lot of people in TO really hated Phaneuf.

I didn't, and still don't. But it's funny how Ottawa fan's views of him have done a 180.

Humm try listening to it from our point of view ,i was listening to the Power Play on XM .When they anounced the trade,we got the 10 mins of why this is such a good move for NY .Then a min on how Ottawa got older ,then the rest of the entire segment was devoted on what effect this has on Toronto,s rebuild and when Matthews will sign his rfa deal .

Even on the national level never have we heard so much about a 30th placed team ,while others barely get mentioned at all .And if you are Ottawa forget it ,we dont have a team according to them .Or if we do its an ahl team or the 67,s in terms of quality

He isnt lying ,we have been after a left handed center for some time .We have been rumored to be asking about him last season, the price was probably too high .And never came down

Yeah but saying Brassard is a plan b to Duchene is like saying Rita MacNeil is your plan B if you can't get Scarlett Johanssen.

Toronto is the largest market, of course they're going to get more air time.

Doesn't mean the content or analysis is biased against Ottawa. Hell, most Toronto outlets mercilessly bashed the Leafs and their best players for the last decade.

They're not talking about how good of a deal this was for NY because they're based in TO, they're talking about it because it's a fantastic deal for NY - they upgrade their pick, get a similar current talent, and also get 5 years younger.

There really isn't a way to look at this trade that isn't a win for New York, unless you're just talking about straight $$

I see the Leaf summer hot air show has been in overdrive all day.

Did you check the standings from the end of the season? Are the Leafs still in last place?

But, Leaf fans are having a very strong summer run. The consensus opinion is that the Leafs are the big summer winners. It is so much better when you get to play without the scoreboard.
