Most of them were either expiring this season or the next ,so yeah we arent in bad shape no matter how many charts and pie graphs you through out .Ottawa has two key RFA,s to resign and almost 20 mil to do it ,even with Dion.So again what cap issues does Ottawa have again ??please elighten me??

Ryan has one of the top 5 worst contracts for a forward in the league. Phanuef has one of the top 5 worst contracts for a dman in the league.

But other than your 2 highest paid players being giant problems, things are great.

Why are they problems ??Actual dollars for Dion after we dumped our expiring dead money on you guys for the season have us paying him 5.4 mil a season for the duration of his deal .Ryan while overpaid was already making 5.5 when we traded for him ,we probably gave him about 1.5 too much hardly earthshattering .All this to a team that has ton of cap to begin with .

Look there is still some work to do with our team but you are reaching here

If you bothered to see why Ottawa needed to do this, its not really all that big a deal .Even if Methot isnt claimed we wont be resigning him at 33 years of age ,we needed a better veteran defender for Ceci ,and we didnt want to give up much to get one .Even if Dion only gives us 3 decent seasons its still worth it ,we can either retain a ton and trade him ,buy him out or stick him on the bottom pair ,then buy him out .Point is we got a defender that can help our team at a price we were comfortable paying ,both in assets moved and dollars spent

Actual dollars for phanuef is $6.6.

Not a problem having those 2 guys as your highest paid if you’re not trying to win a cup.

We got a top 4 defender at less than 6 mil per ,and gave up a 2nd and a b prospect .Like i began the trade between us made sense for both teams ,Dion isnt worth the money he is paid everybody knows this .Both teams made it work

Net savings are irrelevant. I doubt you guys put the savings to use, let alone good use.

so, we can assume you're of the thought process that Melnyk will not spend to the cap in order to win a cup?

What does this have to do with # of picks?

Is there a new system in place I'm unaware of, where last place gets double the picks of teams in no mans land?

TBH picks are easy to get if thats all you are looking to make trades for ,its making something out of those picks where the real work is .I think the leafs will do well ,but even they wont expect everyone of them to hit on the mark ,hense you need lots of picks to expand your chance at success

There is a hill exactly one mile up and one mile down.

A car drives up the hill at 30 mph.

How fast does it need to go coming to down the hill to average 60 mph.

Is it a Leafs car or a Sens car?

The answer is they'd have to get down the hill instantaneously.

So, it can't be either, of course. The Leafs are at the bottom of the hill just starting the drive up. Maybe like a quarter of the way up. The Sens are trying to get up the hill, but slowly sinking backwards, back down the up side.

Haven't really back-read, so I don't know if I missed this, but it looks like the Sens are forced to protect Phaneuf in the expansion draft. Assuming they also protect Karlsson, that means they only have one spot left to use, which I imagine would be used on Ceci.

Interesting.

If the Leafs had kept him, they'd have had only been able to protect Rielly and Gardiner... and would likely lose Carrick, who was pretty impressive last season.

I wonder if that factored into their decision at all.(not the Carrick part specifically)

You’re working in theory, not in the real world.

Nobody cares what savings they had yesterday. All melnyk is going to give a poop about is how much money he needs to spend on phanuef going forward.

His actual salary year to year will be part of the budget; not some made up average amount after savings.
