I think the sens are leaps and bounds in a better position than the leafs.

The present
The leafs and sens are tied in the standing but the sens should finish better. The sens had a meltdown at the end of last year and couldn't turn it around but were still a good team. They got off to a bad start but i don't think they are far off from being a good team. They are going from an offensive team to playing defense. If the stars can pick it up like they usually do and if Fisher or Vermette can pick it up they are a pretty good team. Don't forget it wasn't that long ago they were an elite team. The leafs on the other hand are producing as much as projected and i don't see a lot of room for them to improve.

The future

The leafs are doing a pretty good job of rebuilding but who do they have that can get them top notch prospects or draft picks besided Kablerle? Where the leafs are at an advantage is they are already rebuilding giving the young players ice time. The reason i think the sens can even be better in the futyer is they can wait and see how this season goes and if they are still struggling they have loads of assets they can trade to bring in a bunch of prospects and picks. One trade involving Heatley, Spezza or Alfredson would get them enough to put them ahead of the leafs in rebuilding because of the return.

If Bryan Burke blows this team up more (Which is what he'll do) the Leafs have the inside track on the #1 pick next June, plus whatever they get for guys like Kaberle+Kubina. Things will be looking pretty good for the Leafs.

And yes, I do believe they will waive their NTC's this time.

Why exactly?
D'Amigo won rookie of the year where Leblanc was one of the 3 finalists.

Leblanc has been better than D'Amigo for pretty much all his life. D'Amigo has been better THIS year.

If you guys were not some gay retards over the Internet I'd be willing to take on any kind of bets about which of the 2 players has the better NHL career.

ill do a quick breakdown on how im grading it(doesnt mean im right jy my two cents)

coaching -
wilson seems to have the upper hand by a large margin. Toronto has less talent, more points, and i love the system they are playing

management - well now who the hell knows wtf burke will do but fletcher was running a good ship, shows he isnt afraid of making deals where the sens never make that deal to put them over the top

players obviously with heatley, spezza, alfi they have a ton of talent... but talent doesn't always mean wins. This core has never played to their potential besides when they made to to the finals which they rode a goalie they decided to throw under the bus eventually. Their secondary scoring is horrible and nothing is ever done to address it(minor fixes but about it)
They wont move a guy like alfi or spezza for a ton of prospects or players or anything so they arent touchable assets.

cap room toronto has much more

youth toronto has a ton of youth playing, and still winning games

so basically since toronto has accepted to go the route of youth, with the youth, coaching and so on i just think toronto is in a better situation

as ive stated before. If Ottawa would be willing to trade alfredson, spezza, phillips, build around heatley, volchenkov, lee and so on then they would be in a hell of a much better situation... they could get the world for some of these players....
i just dont see them ever be willing to do that

Funny how so many reports start with the assumption that Laine is the likely winner of the Calder this season. Yet, it does not appear to impact on the Leafs choosing to take someone else with their first round pick. Do you think if it was any team other than the Leafs making this pick, the selection would be different? Everyone seems certain that Laine is the overwhelming favourite of Jets management and fans.

Is it possible that this draft turns out to be a huge blunder by Leaf management? They are in a very difficult position. I think Matthews is the right pick. But, if Laine is the goal scorer everyone expects, if he wins the Calder and if he becomes an on ice leader and MVP for the Jets there may be some unhappy blue and white supporters.

Ottawa doesn't have to live with the shame of picking 1st and maybe not getting the best player so clearly the SENS are in a better position. Lock this up.

By finishing last overall, and having their AHL team crap the bed in the playoffs, clearly this puts the leafs in a worse situation, at this time.

The reward for this is picking higher in the entry draft, than the Senators.
