They had a better lineup, but that doesn't mean they did not overachieve.

The real reason for the success two seasons ago was insane goaltending which made the team look better than it was. I said at that time they'd regress because that goaltending would not repeat those numbers.

- RogerRoeper

Great goaltending would make ME look like a genius behind the bench. I'll be much happier when our D does a more consistent job of taking away some of the easy goals we allow, and cut down on the spectacular saves Andy and Lehner have to make. That's where I'm hoping that this coach or the next will implement and teach a system that includes a lot more defensive awareness.

Last time I looked, both the goaltenders are part of the team, and they're repeating those numbers.

However, if you remove Alfredsson, Gonchar, Spezza and Methot (injured) from the line up.............then this seasons' team is not as good as two seasons ago.

Or perhaps they're just underachieving???

The only desirable situation is Stanley Cup. Until one of these two teams is in a position to win one, this thread will continue to be meaningless. And finally, for an entire summer you'll have us three Sens fans on this thread, plus the 212 derpish bandwagon hoppers dancing through the thread. September of that year (2017, thank you very much) the Leafs fans will retort with, "Yeah, but now that's done. Who's in a better position now?"

Please note that the above paragraph contained hypotheticals, written towards the most likely scenario, but not something that will necessarily come to pass. I have no idea how many bandwagon jumpers will come to hockeybuzz.

the topic is WHO is in a better situation. The thread only becomes meaningless when the answer leans toward Leafs

how dare you call this thread meaningless

Its obvious they are not as good and you can thank Melnyk for that.

Two season ago, after 28 games the Senators had 34 points.

This season, after 28 games they only have 27 points.

So yes, the loss of Alfredsson, Gonchar, Spezza and Methot (to injury) has hurt the Senators ability to win games.

Not quite. In less than half the games, Anderson is .16 lower than two seasons ago.

Sens win one on the road. From what I saw the Bruins underachieved in the first period, and the Senators achieved just the right amount.

But in the second period both the Senators and Bruins overachieved by a factor of 22% each.

The third period saw the Senators achieveless for the first 11 minutes and they were a little more achievefull than the Bruins.

In the OT both teams underachieved except for Lehner who was just a shade over his achieveedness rating.

In the Shoot Out Bobby Ryan underachieved, and Bergeron overachieved.

I wish Burke would have pulled the trigger on Kaberle+Kadri for Kessel. Woulda had Hall/Seguin and the next year's pick.
