you did win, you have Kessel instead of Seguin or Hall, whomever the second rounder is, and the first rounder next year.

Burke is going to have to sign a "set up man" for Kessel in the UFA market this summer.

BTW Kelly Hrudey picked the Sens is six over the Pens............on CBC tonight.

I meant Toronto's pick. And yes, I do consider Kessel over Seguin/Hall a win, thank you... and tacking on 2 guys who will likely not have notable careers doesn't change that.

As for the set-up man, Bozak's done a great job, and they want Kadri- who will likely be up- to take that role in the future.... so no signing needed is going to happen in that department. You'll likely see a trade for a top-6 winger with top-3 potential though, in order to give us a good 1-2 punch with our top-6.

As for Kelly Hrudy, it's a shame he got the short straw, but broadcasts always have to have some1 going against the grain, it's just not interesting otherwise. Don't expect a team that couldn't even tie the season series with the worst team in the east to beat the stanley cup champion. They'll be lucky to go 5 games... but in all likelihood, the Sens will be able to drive to their T-offs after game 4.

your logic is severely flawed.

Why do you insist that NHL teams measuring stick, as to how they will fare in the playoffs, is somehow predetermined by how they played against the leafs???

That's something only a leaf fan could come up with.

The Senators beat Chicago, Washington three times, Pittsburgh twice, Buffalo five times and many other playoff teams.

The Senators have proven to themselves that the can play with the top contenders.................you could care less about non playoff teams like the leafs.

It'll probably take more than 30-40 pumps of hgh for them to catch Kessel.

The point being, is that all the leaf fans here in this thread seem to be totaly convinced that the Penguins will have an easy time with the Senators, and will probably sweep them, or get rid of them in five games in the least.

The Senators only had THREE fewer wins than the Penguins, during the season, The Penguins had a .616 point percentage, while the Senators had a .573 points percentage.

There is less than a half a goal per game difference between the two teams, with the Penguins holding that slight edge, BUT the Senators hold the advantage over the Penguins, in allowing fewer goals against per game.

Ottawa's PK is ranked higher than Pittsburgh's, and the Penguins have a .3% edge on the PP.

These two teams are a lot closer than you may want to believe, and a sweep is not a likely as you may wish it to be.

Other than your deepest desired wishes............on what else do some of you leaf fans see the possibility of a sweep???

It'll be a close series IMO - although I officialy picked Pittsburgh to win, I'm secretely hoping that Ottawa takes it because I want to see a different Eastern team in the finals...plus Crosby annoys the hell out of me.

Many (most) Leafs fans are just bitter about missing the playoffs...but their team will eventually get back into the playoff picture, and their fans won't feel left out anymore.

So alot of people in Toronto want us to believe, although last night MacKenzie indicated that Hall is projected to be a 40 goal score, but we should believe that what the Leafs fans are telling us instead...

In your opinion... but not based on what TSN said last night...

Can you imagine a trade that gets your team a new complete 1st line.

2010 Toronto 1st- 2011 Toronto 1st- 2010 Toronto 2nd
Ryder- Savard-Kreji
etc.......

I can definitely see Hall being a 40 goal scorer in his prime. Kessel can be a 40 goal scorer now.

You really got to stop making out like this is something great for the Leafs. It's not. If you look at the cup winners of the past 5 years, one thing that is consistent is that they have 2 or 3 contracts that are incredibly cap friendly. It's the only way you can assemble a contending team in the NHL these days. The most common way to get those contracts is the entry-level. That's part of what makes draft picks so highly important, and particularly high ones.

Given the choice, I take Taylor Hall scoring 25 or 30 goals, on an entry level contract, over Kessel scoring 40 on his current contract.

that being said, Big T, and all the other morons out there try to pretend the Leafs just handed over 3 draft picks for nothing in return. The trade will never be a robbery for the Bruins, because, quite simply, the Leafs got a very valuable asset back. This will never be Kurvers for Niedermayer, because Kessel is a hell of a lot better now than Kurvers ever was. If you want to see a good robbery, look no further than Gomez for young players and picks. I mean, who manages to dump a liability, while picking up youth? Amazing.

Yep, which makes the 2011 1st and 2010 2nd the difference in the deal.. Finally someone understands the one sidedness of the deal...

I don't think you understand, Hall in his PRIME will be a 40 goal guy... Kessel in his prime will be a 50 goal guy, while being more well rounded.

Hall will very likely be a good player. Kessel will better. Depending on where the Leafs finish next year we can start to determine if Boston has a chance at evening it all up.

When all is said and done though, Boston gave up their best chance at a cup in a long while with this deal.

All words coming out of Toronto.... we both know that Hall may never be a 40 goal scorer and Kessell may have already hit his prime, in fact didn't his numbers drop this season with more ice time... anyway you spin it all you want but Boston's future is ahead of them... and it will get better... how much better can Kessel get?

Kessel's numbers fell playing mainly with Stajan as his center, after missing training camp... I'd say it's quite understandable.

And with his skill set, Kessel can get much better... especially if he becomes more consistent

WE will see, We will see... unless the Leafs can find someone Savard like, I expect to see much of the same next year.. 25-30 goal scorer with about 55-60 points... nice numbers, but not elite and worth 2 1sts and 2nd.

with a full training camp and a healthy start to the season, along with not playing with guys like Stajan, and instead being with some real offensive threats... I'm expecting somewhere around 45 goals, 70 points

though depending on how good Kulemin gets, Kessel could wind up with more than 25 assists.

So who is this guy that is better than Stajan... are you suggesting that after spending 5.0+ M for Kessel, 2 first 1st rounders and a 2nd that they still need to add to allow Kessel to play to your expectations..

They already have the guy, Bozak. Kessel's game improved massively once he started playing with him. And soon he'll be upgraded to Kadri, who the Leafs have made it very clear will be Kessel's center down the road.
