Yeah, He could be a heart and soul kind of guy, or he could end up being a good checking forward with offensive output that doesn't justify that draft position.

its going to be fun to watch it play out

It's going to be more fun to see if guys like Stone want to sign long term, or if Duchene is willing to re-sign.

Imagine they gave up those assets for Duchene and he walks after 2 seasons in which the team is horrible.

Seriously. I know that you have a good hockey mind and sometimes you can be highly insightful.

Ottawa has committed to building around Karlsson and playing a counter attacking game off of a 1-3-1. Nothing special in playing a 1-3-1, most teams follow that approach, Ottawa is better than most.

But, Ottawa has invested in building a strong D with the ability to drive the play from the back end. They have two players in Chabot and Harpur they believe will make the team out of training camp next year. They have two more in Englund and Jaros that they believe are not far off in playing in the NHL.

I think the Sens want Phaneuf for at least one more year. He was an extremely positive influence on the young guys throughout the playoffs and I have no doubt that the Sens would not make it past Boston or the Rangers without the outstanding play and leadership of Phaneuf.

With the young guys they will be adding next year I think it is imperative that they keep Phaneuf. I believe the Sens will move Methot + for more offence. Many believe Claesson was Ottawa's 2nd best playoff Dman and I believe he will be paired with Karlsson next season. Dorion believes White makes the team and Brown has a very good shot at making the team out of training camp as well.

The funny thing with Claesson is that he isn’t a terrible bottom pairing guy. They could have probably gotten something for him at this deadline, or next.

Poor asset management from a poor team.

I don’t see any reason why Duchene would want to re-sign, after watching the Hoffman/Karlsson debacle.

Stone is only going to re-sign because he doesn’t have a choice... I doubt it will be long term unless it’s a huge overpayment that handcuffs them on their internal cap, like the Bobby Ryan signing.

Almost certainly the refinancing of "senior debt" suggests a pathway is being opened for a Melnyk walkaway without a bankruptcy. Most curios aspect of the announcement is that it named Capital Sports as refinancing the debt. Melnyk name not mentioned.

David Pagnotta reports one of the financiers is an individual with a long time interest in acquiring Sens.

- spatso

Melnyk owns Capital Sports Holdings inc. This is the liability shield company that Eugene set up when purchasing the Sens to protect himself from personal bankruptcy and liabilities. CSH inc is the main holding company, the parent company. CSH inc is the owner of Capital Sports & Entertainment inc (Sens and related assets), Capital Sports Properties Inc (building and related assets), Capital Tickets Inc., Capital Sports Management Inc (Sensplex agent) and the Sens Foundation.

Would I like to see new ownership, yeah, sure. You have to be kidding yourself if you think Melnyk is going to bow out now when he is on the verge of closing the LeBreton Flats deal. The only way he sells now, is if someone makes him an astronomical offer that he can't refuse...because the LeBreton real estate deal is worth some serious cash.
