Is Auston Matthews worth $12-14 MIllion Per?
There are still discussions ongoing regarding the length of the deal. If the deal is 5 -8 seasons the AAV number could be as high as $14M. Is he worth that? |

14 million seems about right...that's 14 million they can put on LTIR to circumvent the cap in the future. |

The reality is 12-14 mil today will be 14-16 in 2 years so you may as well lock him in. |

I hope he can snag 15 mil a year on a max deal. Let’s go another 50 years without a Cup !!!! |

If it was $12-14M the Leafs would have instantly agreed to that. Seriously. You can't view the absolute dollars, but instead as a percentage of the cap.
McDavid's deal accounted for 16.7% of the cap when signed. Let's say Matthews takes 16%, because I'm a notch below McDavid. That's $13.5M. But the whole world knows the cap is about to jump to $89M next year and then $93M the following year. So Matthews likely says I'll take 16%, but base that on $93M or $95M or something like that. So that's $15M. As a starting point.
Good thinking on $12-14M. I wonder why Treliving hasn't signed that yet?

Actually the whole world doesn't know that, those are predictions. Remember 3 years ago when the cap was suppose to jump up 4-5 million then it was just 1 million....
Nothing is guaranteed.

I agree, nothing is guaranteed! Well except an NHL players salary!! Perform or don’t perform, we are still going to pay you. Strange how players have their best seasons on contract years! |

|
Easily worth that. Arguably one of the best 2way centres in the league. |

Obviously Matthews is a great player. But teams can’t win with too many players making that kind of cash. You need a more balanced team. It’s frustrating knowing that if you sign these guys you are never going to win. |

Give AM is money. Easily worth it. For this citing that he will make more than MacK or McD…look at the cap % for those players the year they signed. McD will out earn AM on his next deal.
Nylander is the real X factor. I hope Tree sticks to his guns at $8.5-$9.5 range. If he doesn’t sign then …option 1 is to trade him in a home run hockey type trade roster player(s) for roster player(s).
Option2 is use him for this season and let him walk. It’s a contract year so chances are that he will play is balls out for the next contract which is a good thing. And if and when he walks away Leaf’s will have that money earmarked to spend on a UFA that can replace all or most of his production. The UFA market is expected to be very good and even if 50% of the big names get resigned before then I expect that the Leafs can still find a 30 goal scorer willing to take 8.5-9.5 |

Yes.
If only to screw over the Leafs' cap situation even worse.

At worst AM is worth $11.8 if SA is worth $9.5
At best AM is worth $13.1
So is AM worth between 12-14? I think the answer is yes
However players and agent are much more shrewd today than when the cap was first introduced. AM’s stats indicate that he has trended for 50 goal seasons in 3 of the last 4 seasons AND he is going into his prime. It’s reason that he would expect a bump up from $13 if he agrees to anything over 5 years. 15 is a lot to digest buy 13.5-14.25 is not exactly crazy talk either |

I think Matthews may have fallen out of the top20, so of course I in turn think that is WAY too much money.
...but yeah, go ahead Leafs, sign him up! Haha |

he is apparently willing to take less to keep the leafs contenders, wants 13.5 ya good luck with contending.. sign him to the 8 yr deal and watch him rot with no cup and no playoffs for yrs to come because of the trio being to greedy to think of the team first, marners is up in 2 yrs and nylander next yr this might be an utter disaster, mathew 13.5 marner will want a raise 12-13, Nylander wants 10-11?? would be as much for the 3 as it is for Marner Mathews and Nylander Tavares atm.. ya were screwed.
