Nylander Trade Down to Three Teams
Hearing the Leafs Nylander will be dealt. There are three teams with interest. The Islanders are by far the favorite with Pageau and Wahlstrom being part off the deal. The Capitals and Ducks have also poked around… |

So the Leafs are going to trade a 40goal scorer for a couple of bit parts? |

I still say 3 or 4 team deal. Islanders end up with Nylander and Leafs get Karlsson. |

Interesting from the Ducks asking. Probably Troy Terry and next year's first plus good prospect. But I wouldn't trade for Nylander without a sign and trade. |

For me Terry is no go.
Leafs have no D prospects worth a damn. Ducks have at least 6 sure fire top 4 D prospects pretty ready -
I’d go - 24 top 5 protected 1st. / 24 - 2nd and 2 D prospects not named Mintyukov or Zellweger -
Willy and Murray -
Gives Leafs 11 mil in cap space for FA D - Dumba ??? Or use the draft capital from Ducks to trade for Pesce |

Darn it...
Only way a Nylander trade makes sense now is if it addressed a glaring need AND gets Murray's contract off the books. Because taking his contract off the books is worth a first right now.
so, in that case, a Nylander and Murry for Karlsson deal (with retained) might make some sense.
Or a Nylander/Murray/Muzzin deal for Crouse or Keller in Arizona.
But that Murray trade is gonna cost.... |

There are two reasons to trade Nylander:
1) Directly address a team need (ie Pesce, I guess Karlsson)
2) Create cap space to then address that team need in another move (ie so Nylander for picks, Nylander with Murray for nothing). With that cap space, you then add Dumba, trade for Pesce, etc…
But trading Nylander for Pageau and Wahlstrom makes zero sense and thus has never been discussed. Leafs fail to address a need. And get zero cap relief. Truly makes zero sense. At that point, any sane GM would just say, let’s make a Cup run with Nylander. Next summer, we have Nylander, Bertuzzi, Domi, Brodie, Klingberg, Murray as UFAs. That’s almost $30M of cap space to play with. Maybe we sign Nylander then and let some of these other guys walk. Or maybe we let Nylander go because we want to sign Bertuzzi and Domi instead. But you have a pretty good window this season to compete for a Cup with Nylander. Trading him for Pageau and Wahlstrom is preposterous.

I like Terry too. But they both play wing and the Ducks are running out of top 6 roster spots. So I'd look at Nylander as a upgrade over Terry. And Terry will probably sign for less than Nylander so he'd probably fit into Torontos cap space better will also getting the Leafs a couple more picks. |

Does not make sense for SJ. If Murray is such a negative, how you figure SJ would take that contract AND retain? That would make Nylander quite expensive for 4 years, plus they lose a valuable offensive contributor.
