The Devils Goalie Search Continues…Campbell?
I have heard several names including of course Hellebuyck. The Jets want a ton for Connor and the Devils won’t give a ton unless there is a contract extension in place that works for both sides…There have been some discussion involving Oilers keeper Jack Campbell. Campbell’s soup after all is a NJ invention…

That would basically go against all of the great work Fitzgerald has done...must be due to a (frank) up right? He's an NHL GM, they love (frank)ing up!
Nobody, no body…..is taking that contract off Edmonton. - Bullot
Ek, please when you make up this click bait, excuse me "rumor" try to use more plausible "connections" than "Campbell's soup is from New Jersey, so people with the last name Campbell make sense to be traded there..."
At some point, perhaps you are very near or there already, you'll lose your audience completely...we can only take so much of having our intelligence insulted before checking out say hockeyfeed or similar sites...
Guys. Let's all chill out about the Campbell's Soup comment. Ek is just making a joke. It's funny. The important thing here is that NJ is on the hunt for a goalie and sources have confirmed they have been discussing Jack Campbell. Let that sink in. A contending team seeking a goalie upgrade has been having discussions about Jack Campbell. This is huge news!

Is there a typical date or days before camp where teams shut it down? The reality is that Hellebuyck is a UFA next year. Does the asking price come down the closer to camp? Or do teams just wait it out until next year? If the jets trade him, they only have brossoit under contract, so they will need another goalie. jets have $74M in cap committed but only have 10 forwards and 3 RFAs yet to sign. Getting any amount of hellebuyck's $6.2M savings back would be a big win for them. Guess they are willing to wait a bit to see who blinks first. Maybe a sticking point is that he has already stated what he is looking for in an extension. Not many teams could afford $9M/yr. why not trade for Ullmark instead if its similar assets?

The joke isn't about soup. The joke is this rumoured discussion never happened. Like zero percent chance. The only plausible trade discussions for Campbell would be with rebuilding teams looking to weaponize cap space. If reports said Chicago or San Jose or Detroit or Arizona had discussed accepting Campbell's brutal contract (along with a 1st round pick or top prospect), then sure, I'd believe that.
But NJ isn't rebuilding. They are a top contender with just $5.6M of cap space allocated to 3 more forwards and 1 -d-man. They have no room for Campbell. Nor is he an upgrade. The comments on soup is just a distraction. The real joke is believing NJ has actually discussed this.

I mean... they were interested in him 12 months ago so it is not really out of the realm of possibility that they have had a conversation with Edmonton. Saying zero percent chance might be worse than the soup fact.

Yeah, but 12 mos ago was very different...he didn't have that horrible contract, or played so poorly the year before (Campbell is pretty much a 1 year wonder, imo). Even if he played OK, he's not an upgrade on Vanecek who is cheaper too, so why would NJ do this? They will only be interested in a G if it's a clear upgrade, otherwise, it's pointless...
I could maybe see them having interest in Gibson at 50% retained with something like ANA 2nd rounder in 2025 if Gibson doesn't meet some performance metrics (games played/started) next the next two seasons, in exchange for Vanecek...this would be only if NJ thinks the change of scenery will awaken Gibson. This is different than Campbell as they have *very* different histories - Gibson was considered a top 5 G for a good 4-5 seasons not so long ago.

Any goalie that gets out from behind that Edmonton D will look better with their next team.
