So NJ signs Hughes, Bratt, Hischier, Hamilton, Palat, Marino, Siegenthaler to long extensions. Just yesterday it was Haula which was not mentioned here. But now its time to ask guys to take discounts to fit in Hellebuyck? Meier is basically the only other player of consequence left to sign. They have $23M to fit in Meier, Hellebuyck, and a handful of cheap guys making $1M. And they likely send a contract to Winnipeg as part of the deal. Maybe Vanecek goes and they run with Schmid as back-up.

The ONLY way we let him come to NJ is as a rental for they year. We’re not signing a 30 year old to $9.5M, we’re not trading away huge pierces to bring him here. At best he’ll be a rental that we give up scraps to bring on. We don’t need him bad enough to overpay in assets and salary cap space. Let some other team be the ones stupid enough to pay him that kinda money.

He’s not signing for less than $8M. This is his last chance to cash out big before retiring. Obviously we’d take him if he signed for under $5M but that will never happen. He’s said multiple times he wants to go where he can be resigned. I highly doubt he’s willing to just come here as a rental, risk having an injury or anything else that takes away from him getting his big pay day somewhere. He’s going to take the money now while he still can. Let some other team be stupid enough to pay him that big check. We don’t need him that bad
