I'm guessing Thursday. Tulsky is hopefully just waiting until the Canes get knocked out then he will say goodbye.

Let's see if I have this straight.
Dubas is available because Florida dumped Toronto in round 2.
Florida is in the playoffs because the Pens lost to Chicago.

So Dubas is available because the *Pens* are out of the playoffs.

100%. And if the pens won against columbus and chicago, florida doesnt even make the playoffs.

i would not be mad at a dubas/tulsky team. But i dont want an adversarial relationship between GM and coach. If its analytics driven, then does carter dress every night? or would we really have ever seen a heinen-carter-mcginn line?

Yup...I've always said there's a thin line to all of this. So many things could of had the Pens in the playoffs besides not having to win those two games (ie Jarry not getting injured in Winter Classic) for them to of had 4 more standings points. Now the team that won the Presidents trophy only to be swept in the 2nd round last season, that went 6-6-0 in their last 12 games of this season, just barely squeaking into playoffs depending on other teams to lose to do so....is now 1 win from the finals.

Carter's buddy is gone so Sully will be able to ice the players he wants. A big part of having him involved in the GM hiring process was likely because of the conflict between him and Hextall. I think the new GM and Sullivan will be on the same page with personnel.

All this new GM rumor stuff is exciting... lets just hope it doesn't end up like a lot of the trade rumors the past handful of seasons...where the rumors say one thing but the actuality is something that none of us really saw coming and feel its sh!tty hahaha

RW, what exactly did Dubas accomplish in Toronto that makes him a dream GM candidate?

MacKinnon is reportedly out of the running for the GM job. That's according to Pittsburgh Sports Now.

He notes the full list is unknown, but it at least includes Tulsky, Dubas, and Steve Greeley (whom I thought Dallas had rejected the Penguins' ask to interview).

That's 3 really solid names IMO. Dallas has been a strong under-the-radar team over the last few years. They've built an impressive team.

He has made Toronto objectively better each season with less and less money due to the money tied up in their core 4 players. As I've said, I dont hold him responsible for Matthews scoring 0 goals against Florida. He put Toronto in a good spot to win and did a good job identifying talent.

He never addressed their goaltending issue. He gave over 11 million to a player they did not need in Tavares.

If it wasn't Dubas' fault that Mathews scored zero goals against Florida then you would have to say it wasn't Hextall's fault that Jarry crapped the bed against NYI and Crosby got a cheap shot in the face against NYR?

Rossi's article yesterday said Tulsky is the leading candidate. Friedman heard Darche was the leading guy.

He made them one of the best 5 on 5 teams in the league. One of the best defensive teams while also being one of the best offense teams with a 2nd overall PP to go with it. Had he been afforded more time in TO he may of learned to address the goaltending a bit better. As Feds pointed out it seemed to be his weakness there.

And yet, despite all that his teams won exactly one single playoff round in five years.

He signed their marquee player to a contract that expires exactly when that player will be a UFA, while an idiot like Chiarelli locked his up for the maximum allowable 8 years.

Yup and everyone was done with the Pens in 2015 as well after 6 straight years of mostly outted by round 2, besides the 3rd round sweep by the Bruins in 2013, that is....I mean, the Leafs got Tampa in the 1st round, who went on to win the cup two and three seasons ago, and then Florida in the 2nd round this season who are looking like they might sweep the Canes...the Canes who made the Devils look like an AHL team...the Devils who came back from down 2-0 to the Rangers and took that series.
