Thanks for the blog Trevor, Conny is the right fit imo, he knows the organization and if Iggy comes on board it would be awesome. I'm not sure if KY and Duran agree.

Hey FF, I’m good with Conroy, he’s been waiting a long time for this opportunity. I don’t think he’ll be a pushover or too nice of a guy. The culture change is good for the Flames and I’m sure lots of the players are happy. Now let’s hire a coach that will give the young guys a fair chance, can see Love being promoted in some capacity., Conroy will always spark Iginla rumours because of their friendship, but I think Jerome has 1 more year with that u15 he’s coaching here in KTown.
Exciting times to be a Flames Fan.

Thanks for the long weekend reads Trevor!
No question Conny is a personable guy and a fine man who has paid his dues.... im just not sure he has the business savy to take on the GM role and lead us out of decades of mediocrity.
As I stated in the last blog.... I think his hiring is about money and him accepting limited power and Murray's micro management.
If Iggy wants back in the league i very much dought his U15 commitment will stand in his way.
As Kman noted I agree Love will be named head coach and I think Iggy will be riding shotgun.

Cheers!

If it means anything, Julian McKenzie is starting to walk back the expectation that Iggy will be in Kelowna next season. His son Joe was drafted by the Oil Kings a few weeks ago.

Approach him Trevor!

Hey Remember me? I write about the Flames now but I'd rather do anything in the organization short of selling peanuts and beer.

Ya couldnt believe the Hitmen passed on Joe at 11 for public relations reasons alone. Someone sure must have liked the kid they picked at 11!

Kid picked at 11 is 5’-6” and not sure he wants to play in the Dub. Missed opportunity on the Hitmans part, Joes stats look to be better as well.

The Hitmen philosophy seems to mimic the Flames in that they resist rebuilds and for this reason they allways seem to pick outside the blue chip zone. In their bubble years
I dont ever recall them trading good 18 or 19 year olds at the deadline to stock up on multiple 1sts. The Oil Kings do when they can honstly admit their not Memorial Cup contenders and they seem to re build very fast as a result.

Thanks Trevor.

I am ok with Conroy. I like him as a person I would like them to hire the person Maloney originally described that they were looking for as AGM. Someone young, progressive, and willing to think outside of the box. Maybe bring in the guy from the Wranglers???

I will need to be convinced that Conroy is the right man for the job. I still don’t get what makes him a great GM.

I like that we now have hockey people making the hockey decisions with this organization. That was always a knock ever since Edwards got involved. Less so in recent years but now with Maloney and Conroy, IMO they can assess the on ice talent better than most in the league. The question I have is do they have the negotiating and cap management skills. Maybe that's where Edwards is helpful....if he is going to be hands on, that's where he belongs.

First order of business should be to trade Lindholm, Toffoli, Hanifin, Backlund and anyone who should bring a nice return to jump start a quick rebuild. Unfortunately, this hire signals it very much likely won’t be the case.

IMO first thing you do is explore extensions with these 4 to see if Darryl leaving has changed any minds.
If reasonable extensions arent posible then you try to move them for early picks in this draft as I think you get more now than at the deadline.
Would the Jackets offer up number 3 for Lindy?
Det at 9 and 17 are likely in play too

Treliving got the job as an assistant GM in Phoenix. I see no reason why Conroy wouldn’t be good at the job. Sakic made some questionable decisions when he took over in Colorado and now has a cup in his GM resume. He traded away some stars which is what Conroy should be looking at.

I’m mixed on who they keep Hanifin and Lindholm will bring the biggest return but are probably the best two to keep. I’d also keep Zadorov as his physicality would be hard to replace and we don’t have much in the system coming except Solovyov.

Lack of physicality is one of the reasons I hope they hold onto Ritchie and maybe even bring his brother back.

That is, if they do not bring Lucic back….which I hope they do not. Seems like Lucic no longer wants to drop the gloves.

Agree Lindy and Hani should bring back a premium and are the most likely to be dealt this summer.
If Toff can come close to this years production he will be an in demand deadline target and he likely brings us back as much as we paid for him (a 1st and Heineman)
I think Backs plays out his career in Calgary and then joins the management team if he wants to stay in Canada.

I am by no means against Contoy coming in. He seems like a smart guy and someone that can connect with the players. Which is great.

Looking at someone like Hollands son or the AGM out of Toronto, those guys seemed to bring in skills that IMO make a great GM.

Treiliving was great at negotiating (until he made it public how much JG was offered, and then had his hands tied by Huberdeau) and horrible at signing UFA’s. But at least we know he was good at something important as a GM. I have no idea what Conroy is good at.

Sell high on Toffoli. He will never be worth more.
