Actually the Flames should hire Ryan Smyth. That would be hilarious.

Especially if he cried any time he traded someone.

Smythy has a very good gig in Nashville so would not be interested in least. If anything he may be come a scout for the Oilers for the southeast region, scouting players on those teams.

Thanks Trevor.

Pretty interesting candidate. I would not be opposed to him coming in at all. But if Edwards muzzles him what is the point?

Who is going to want to come here if Edwards is known to meddle and complicate things?

Ideally when would they have the next GM in place? I am guessing well before the draft.

Maloney said he set an internal deadline for hiring a GM as the June 28-29 NHL Entry Draft.

Six and a half weeks max! Hopefully the new guy/girl gets at least two weeks to familiarize.

If the UCP pull off an election win and the arena deal is rubber stamped, we should know in short order if the rumors of Murray selling the team are true. With an arena deal in place and all the talk of a billion $ price tag for the Sens there could not be a better opportunity for him to sell.
Also If the Flames are refusing Tree the opportunity to take a GM job before the draft, it stands to reason other teams would not allow us to hire one of their contracted employees before the draft either.

The Senators have a preliminary deal for a new arena as well. Some of those bidding groups could be interested in the Flames.

A moment of silence for the Edmonton Oilers. Canada's only real hope for Lord Stanley this year.

Poor 5/5 play and Skinner's inconsistency cost the round. Is what it is. Like I said the Oilers were their own worst enemy 5/5 play.

Critical time for the franchise. Let's wish no intervention from Edwards. We're falling behind the other teams.

I support a complete reset from ownership down so I find this article encouraging:

Wild guess, the announcement of the new GM on Monday just before the scouting meetings. The last 2 big announcements were made on a Monday.

It does not seem like there is a front-runner for the GM position. nt looks like they are doing their due diligence. If they just handed it over to Conroy that would look pretty bad.

But if they do not hand it over to Conroy what does that mean for him???
