NHL's been a joke for a long time. Why should anything change now.

With Pietrangelo out the Oil have an amazing opportunity to take the series lead tonight and finish it off on home ice.

Added bonus: We don't have to worry about any huge defensive gaffes by Nurse either.

Nurse has his issues but he was excellent in Game 4. It's a huge loss for the Oilers still.

Not good for either club. Ekholm will probably have to log 25-28 mins tonight with Nurse out. Not good all other D including Bouchard need to step up their game to eat those minutes.

Say whatever you want but this series has had lots of questionable stuff happen. AP not being a repeat offender probably had a lot to do with the length of the suspension. He’s also been targeted by the Oilers, taking some dirty hits on his own. The cross check Kane laid on him from behind earlier probably lead to the tomahawk chop he handed out. Draisaitl not being injured on the play was also working in his favour.
I don’t agree with the 1 game for Nurse but it’s in the rules and I believe the Oilers could have contested it? But I’m not sure of that.
Anyways it’s been the most entertaining series to watch and if Canada going to see another Stanley Cup Winner, it’s probably the Oilers turn.
I just spit a little puke up in my mouth by admitting that.

In the 2009 Cup Finals between Pittsburgh and Detroit, Malkin jumped Zetterberg with 20 seconds left in the game. Zetterberg was not looking to fight, but had no choice. Both got 5 minutes. Malkin got the instigator. Wings were leading the series 2-0. They already had 4 Cups in the preceeding 10 years. Crosby was looking for his first Cup.

Enter Bettman...

"Suspensions are applied under this rule when a team attempts to send a message in the last five minutes by having a player instigate a fight. A suspension could also be applied when a player seeks retribution for a prior incident. Neither was the case here and therefore the one game suspension is rescinded."

Malkin plays game 3 and leads the Pens to a win with a 3-point night. Bettman hands Crosby the Cup a week later...

Red Wings didn't have anyone getting suspended for the next game. The league isn't viewing incidents as mutually exclusive like they should. Though if it were up to me, Nurse would have gotten at least a game ejection for the boarding. And because that is allowed, Pietrangelo escalates. As it always goes. Refs lose control and players fill the void.

Yes but Nurse's absence likely means the terrible skating Desharnais gets more minutes and he makes far more egregious and frequent defensive gaffes than Nurse. Be careful what you wish for.

Seems like Woody is living/dying with Skinner. But agree another 4 goals past Skinner one thing is he rebounds well. Another blown 2-1 lead. Nurse back for game 6 will help.

Would love to hear your hot take if McD/Drai were playing in an American market that needed a 'push' lol. Bottom line is as said before whining about the refs at this point is moot. CDN teams know they will have an uphill battle and the Oilers are a good enough team to play through it. Be better is all they need to do. Now another must win effort must come about. Oilers really are their own worst enemy in many situations these PO's.

Damn. Even with absolute nobodies in net these Golden Knights are a very good, well balanced and deep hockey club.

Edmonton has challenges as a Canadian team for sure. Ultimately, Chiarelli was horrible at his job and Holland has been mediocre at best. Maybe McDrai can carry this organization to a SC, but so far the roster appears to be the same for years; best top end talent without the depth. And in the postseason, deep teams have greater success than top heavy ones.

LA took alot out of them but clearly EDM should have won this series in 6. Full marks to Vegas however they hit you hard with 4 lines. Skinner is still a rookie so mistakes have been made but he is coming into his own. Look for a big bounce back game in gm 6 from him. Again the Oilers are their own enemy for the most part. Losing Nurse and his minutes hurt the team. Holland has done a fine job adding some key pieces and some size to the lineup. But there are still defensive lapses/gaps to fill. Their 5/5 play has been suspect since the first series and still needs addressing. In the cap era it's tough to round out rosters the way most coaches would like. Not going to get any easier from here for EDM this a good test of their resolve and character to must win the final two games to move on. It will basically show how bad they want to be champions as McD/Drai/RNH and a few others must realize they may never get back to this spot again with a solid chance at a cup. Urgency next game should be obvious.

Draisaitl has been unreal in his career in the postseason. Almost every elite player has a decline in production from the regular season to the postseason. He's about the only one in the cap era that doesn't slow down. McDavid has been excellent overall as well. I can't see any justification in questioning the effort of those two. They can only be expected to do so much against a deep team like Vegas. I saw similar criticisms of Crosby and Malkin that were always unjustified. They outperformed anyone in the 2010-2015 era during the postseason (including Kane and Toews), yet got labeled as chokers for a while due to lack of depth contributions. Then as Rutherford improved the team depth they predictably won. Fittingly, as Chicago's depth declined, they lost. I'm always skeptical of top heavy teams for that reason.

1000% it’s the dumbest poop. As soon as I hear that idiotic malarkey I immediately write off the poster as being a complete moron and everything he says after that is suspect.

The Oil will come out with 200% effort in game 6, I'm sure of that. Win that and then it's game 7 where anything can happen.

I'm still giving the edge to Oilers to take this series because of McDrai.
