Good to see brassard still plugging away. Especially since some claimed he wasn’t an nhl player anymore when he signed with the flyers year ago. Playing on g’s team again. Good for him.

I liked brassard when he was here. He still had some left in the tank and I wish him well

Played well here when healthy but, unfortunately, missed long stretches due to injury after a strong start. One heck of a nice guy, too, and a true pro.

Was nice that we still got something for him at tdl. Then he was injured again shortly after. Shame.

Continuing from the last page. It’s not like John Tortorella doesn’t make adjustments. Getting Hayes off center while he was hot offensively I thought was the right move, I just don’t understand what happened to Hayes offense. Cates playing an impressive defensive game at center is an example of coaching up a player. Other the flip side, he’s stubborn. 2D, 1F in OT is almost unforgivable. Giving DeAngelo and defensive situations including PK and closing out one goal games is not good coaching. Other teams are pressing and they know how to take advantage of DeAngelo.

I feel like Hayes has checked out. He is riding out the season until he gets traded. If he is smart he may open his list of teams to include being traded to anybody not named the flyers

If Noah cates was a winger this year, he would be sooo good!did anyone see his 16, a whole 16, games last year? That’s enough games for me to know exactly what’s best for him

I think not that I looked, Torts has cut his ice time to play the kids, also that effects who he is playing with, that is part of it. Yeah, he could have checked out a little

Actually that is false but appreciate the rhetoric and hyperbole. The information that we can take from his 16 game sample as a winger last year. Along with an informed eye that shows that Cates strong suit offensively in his time in the NHL has been his ability to forecheck as F1 to be fast, first and strong on pucks. As well as his ability to score and provide offense around the net on goal mouth and smash play around the net. We can also see that he doesn't have to raw skill to be a puck carrier in transition. Nor does he have the raw natural skill as a puck distributor or playmaker. Nor does he show signs of being a player with snipe ability from hanging out high as a center in the offensive zone and jumping into holes.. All of this leads to an opinion and belief that although he can play center. He may very well have more upside and more potential as a winger than a center. As has been stated previously though. Tortorella loves to fit square pegs in round holes.

Torts addressed the OT 2D 1F recently and sounded like he wants to go back to 2F and 1D eventually. The problem the Flyers had was puck possession which in the beginning the 2D 1F grouping did help with. Torts also didn't feel he could trust many forwards out there. I think this will change next season, and maybe even sooner than that.

I think Cates is awesome at center, and next to Risto is the best player on the team! ;-)

The 2D 1F strategy in OT did not help with puck possession. As the archaic coach that he is. Instead of working to improve their attack in OT. Which is an offensive situation. He decided to play it safe and play defense. It hasn't worked from the get go and he has been ridiculously slow to adapt and change.

Cates is one of the best players on the team but he is not awesome at center. He's pretty good defensively but his offensive production for his role and deployment is pedestrian. It is not his fault though. The coach is misusing him.

you said his defensive impact as a center on a bad team is a skewed perception.

but you're not willing to apply that same logic to his play at LW all of 16 games last season on an even worse team.
