Bill - ASF reported that the advisors are done advising and will be given emeritus status - any thoiughts or insights? Do you think ASF is correct in this?

"The senior advisors, especially Bill Barber, Bob Clarke and Paul Holmgren, will no longer serve in those specific roles with Briere and whomever the new President of Hockey Operations turns out to be. Nor will Hilferty rely on them as much as Scott did."

Halleluiah. If that is true, maybe for the first time in a while, there can be some optimism.

Bill, any insight to ASF comments on the Snow The Goalie podcast about certain members of the front office sending out messages to certain reporters and other front office people in the biz that they had nothing to do with some of the deals/moves Chuck signed/made? IE Ristolainen, DeAngelo, Sanheim etc?

Yes, I think Ant is correct in how it will play out. The titles will change to something similar to the title the late Keith Allen held in his latter years.

But here's the thing: Clarke and Homer really aren't physically around all that often, they don't get much involved in player personnel decisions and it's not like they're in all the hockey ops meetings. The most involved on a regular basis of all the advisors is Dean.

Will Danny ask for Homer's opinion and Clarke's opinion less than Chuck did? Probably. But a lot of people -- Danny included -- respect their perspectives and can ask them whatever they want and whenever they need it. They really aren't the meddlesome types, regardless of public perception, and none even want anymore to do the work that's involved in running the show. But ask for their opinions and they'll give them straight up and unfiltered. Billy is the same way.

Paul on the average day will still be mostly playing golf. tending to his grandkids and serving on the Alumni Association board. Clarke will still spend much of his time in Florida, as will Billy for stretches of the year (along with coaching at Alumni Fantasy Camp).

The public perception may change that they become "much" less involved but the reality probably won't be dramatically different. Chuck is very much consultative in his managing style but when decision time came, he alone made it. I don't know how Danny will be in that process. Everyone's style is different. But I do know how genuinely fond he is of Homer especially, and I can't see him completely shunning Paul because of media or fan pressure to do so.

What I am saying is that I don't think things will be dramatically different but perception often matters more than reality.

Some bombshells dropped today by Torts in his presser when asked if this year was like any other he has experienced:

"This one for me ... a lot of losing. The thing that is different for me is there is a lot of other stuff, not just the on ice product but there is a lot of other stuff that needs to get straightened out. Its just a little bit too grey for me, there's a lot of grey areas that I think needs to get ironed out within the whole organization and that is a huge part of our process. The hallway down in our room, I think we worked through a lot of stuff and I think we are getting it on the right track; still some grey ... the greyness needs to leave. Every one needs to know what they need to do to make this team work and make it a viable competitive playoff hockey team"

Then when asked a follow-up he stated:

"I kind of knew the hockey part of it, I kind of knew we would have to go through that, but I didn't realize (and I can't get specific) there's a lot of other stuff going on around this team that I think needs to be straightened out, where we are kind of bumping into one another when really you should be over there .. and I'll be over here and let's [get] a common goal to get this right. That's ... and that happens when teams struggle, when you lose and every body thinks they have the answer and kind of tread over here ... just in a general sense I think we need to get in our lanes and get our lanes straightened out and then we join it together."

Torts really was open about the clear disfunction that was happening behind the scenes since he has been here. No wonder the product on the ice has been so bad. I have never heard a coach talk so openly about this type of disfunction. I hope he doesn't get in trouble for doing it.

If things won't be dramatically different than we are screwed. I want to reinforce again. The perception, at least in terms of mine and how I view it. Is not that they were involved in day to day decision making. It's that they were in the ear and Scott and they set the tone for how the franchise was going to be run. I knew the day they had that ridiculous press conference when Hextall was fired, that we were screwed. Good riddance to Scott. I love what Holmgren, Clarke and Barber did for the team in the past, but hopefully they are completely shut out moving forward.

That's not the reality of it. Actually it's you and others that refuse to accept the reality of which there is plenty of documentation of.

I for one do believe Hextall was pushed out of here by the old guard, especially Homer and Clarke. Just listen to the Clarke interview where he claimed that all the scouts wanted Makar and Hextall over-ruled them, you can hear the disdain in Clarke's voice. And as incompetent as Fletcher turned out to be, I have no doubt he was pushed by Scott and the old guard to keep band-aiding this team when it was clear a rebuild was needed. Scott himself knew nothing about hockey and took his queus from Barber, that has been established. It appears Hilferty is a local product that knows the game quite well, so hopefully the only people he will be listening to are his new President, Briere and Torts.

That's true. I really have my fingers crossed that this is the beginning of a new era for the Flyers, new leadership, young players, maybe some luck for once ... I really miss going down to Philly to see games because I really think the 5 hour drive is worth it. Its not been that way for a few years now.

Give me reason for optimism and I'll show optimism. Hopefully Tortorella is left out of that equation. Let him just coach the players for now.

There is no possible way he’s left out of that equation MJL. With what he talked about today? He is openly talking about the dysfunction of at the very least the entire hockey ops side of things with the flyers.

Torts is the flyers right now
