I am going to give Laperriere his due.

He has that team in the playoff hunt and for the most part has been sending players to the big club looking like they know what they are doing.

It's what the Flyers want. He's not an NHL-ready center yet and they are committed to him at C. Might hold his own right now on a wing but no need to rush him.

With regard to Bill’s last comment on the previous blog about Frost and Briere’s support compared to Tort’s ambivalence. This is an excellent example of a fork in the road of moving forward with a more modern view of team construction in the NHL or continuing with a similar mindset that the Flyers have been using.

Is it possible to move forward with Briere if Torts is unwilling to accept Briere’s perspective on Frost?

Can Torts move forward if his view on players is contradictory to that of Briere when Briere’s greatest quality at this time is his different perspective from the Flyers traditional viewpoint? And Torts’ view on players is more in line with the Flyers old guard than what Briere has been putting forward in the media since being installed, even considering the seemingly forced upon him lip service to “grit”

Can Briere move forward if Torts’ view is supported by Clarke/Barber etc while trying to take the organization in different direction.

In my view, Briere can only succeed if more of the old guard are removed from the process. He doesn’t have the experience or gravitas to overcome the inertia of the organization without Dave Scott publicly removing the old guard from the building. Only then can we actually see if Danny is any good at running a team at this point.

MY thoughts are that it is the right decision and not surprising. There is no reason for him to come here yet. Let him have another year learning to play center and being successful.

Dave Scott retiring in April, Hilferty taking over. Let's see which "advisors" join him in retirement.

I think its a big mistake for the Flyers to be committed to Gauthier at center. Everything in his game screams top line winger to me, why try to change that? If the Flyers want a top end center, be aggressive in this year's draft and draft one from the top 3 picks.

Yup, this was inevitable once Hilferty was hired.

I don't think Torts has anything to do with Clarke or Barber and vice versa. I think Torts and Danny will be on the same page.

I believe they will go an- ex player route (not necessarily former Flyer) for President assuming Briere is permanent hire for GM. Just a hunch, nothing I have read.

Kind of felt that way, but it was not portrayed that way. I thought it was reported by almost all the media that Scott would stay on as governor of the Flyers and the new guy was only brought in for the business side of things? It was like they all said it wasn’t even a story that Hilferty was brought in. Wrong they were.
Good news is that it actually looks like results do matter over at Comcast!!

With Scott gone, the new guy could come in a clean house and hire from the outside. Anytime there’s change this high up anything becomes possible. Hopefully the new guy makes the right decisions going forward.

I think I was one who said “don’t be surprised if we see him” and frankly I’m a little surprised he hasn’t played, I had heard Torts is “surprisingly” high on him. I guess we didn’t have enough injuries lol
