Finally a chart to back up my saying that DeSmith is the biggest factor in the Pens not having about 10 to 14 more standings points...

Yup, and not addressing this at the deadline was another complete failure
by our clueless GM.

Penguins have failed to meet expectations for 2 years because of goaltending (and other problems). They looked destined to make it 3 years if they fail to make the playoffs.

Absolutely criminal for Hextall to not only fail to address it, but to give DeSmith an extension.

I thought Guentz got dinged in the last game. He looked a bit out of sorts after that hit in FLA. Was pretty surprised he wasn't taken out of the game. Should have been an easy decision.

Almost has a lazy feel to it. Hex is a former star goalie in the league, how could he not have the concerns we all do? haha Its a perplexing situation, for sure.

Wow! Sullivan moving guys around in the bottom six. I doubt it lasts long but it is refreshing to see.

Look, I was always a fan of Hextall as a player, but look at his stats. He had his insane rookie year where he won the Conn Smythe, but after that, only had 2 seasons where he finished in the top-10 in Vezina voting.

But he should could beat the poop out of people.

Yea we should have gotten a better backup goalie/tandem in the off-season. Especially with Desmith coming off back to back core surgeries.

Yeah, he hasn't had a hextraordinary tenure as the Pens GM by any means. This is one of the many examples of it.

Yea he kinda sucks. He did a great job all around with Rakell, and the re-signing of Geno, Tanger and Rust. The Carter TRADE was good. Everything else was meh to bad.

If we came up with a list of every major decision Burke and Hextall have had to make, I'd bet they messed up almost all of them. The Carter/Rakell trades and the top 6/Letang signings this past offseason are the only exceptions I can think of.

I’m just happy they finally got someone that can get Carter a good pass around the net.

Listening to the Bonino interview today he said Greer came to him and said this is what’s on the table and he thought Pittsburgh was the best fit. Hextall could have easily been all in on some guys and they just chose a different team.

Definitely, there's lots that go on behind the scenes.
