Carried over from the last blog...

The Senators just signed Dylan Ferguson to bolster their AHL goaltending depth. That suggests pretty strongly that Talbot won't be traded, and that Sogaard will being playing the rest of the year in the NHL as the #1B.

It's hardly infallible, but dailyfaceoff.com has Sanderson-Chychrun as the debut pairing for tonight's lineup, with the same 2 playing together on the #2PP unit.
https://www.dailyfaceoff....enators/line-combinations

It's really interesting to see that WSH/DET are effectively dropping out of the playoff race with some of their major recent trades... while FLA has done nothing to make their team better. It really just leaves PIT, NYI, BUF, and OTT to punch it out for the final 2 spots, which is very different scenario from the 7-team melee it once appeared to be. If they can find a legitimate bottom-6 upgrade it could be quite an interesting run. Can't help wonder if someone like Nick Bjugstad (ARI) or Derek Grant (ANA) might be a potential target.

EDIT: Oilers just nabbed Bjugstad for a 3rd round pick & depth prospect

A wonderfully solid blog on when we needed one most - kudos khawk! I think much will rest on tonight's performance. If they can carry the Detroit momentum and soundly lay a beat on a team like the Rangers, the sky is the limit and I imagine Dorion starts cooking the books to bolster the bottom six before 3pm tomorrow comes round. If we get dumped by the Rags he might be inclined to play it more conservative. Hard to see the Chychrun trade as anything but a coup - happy to see him lining up on the right side right away.

Man...I look at what it took for the Sens to get JC and then I look at TB gave up for Jeannot (a trade that feels like it was done a month ago) and think we did okay

There are some wide range in the trade values tho....Jeannette goes for 5 draft picks and Cal Foote ffs.

Meanwhile, Vegas gets Quick and only pays a 7th for $1.25 million retention. Yet Toronto pays a 4th for the same amount to Minny for retention on ROR.

9 1st rd draft picks traded so far. Something like 35 picks 4th rd and higher. Inanity.

Sens need to win at a 65 % clip to have a shot.

Meaningful games some might say....

Someone brought this up before - from a tweet from Elliot Friedman - it looks like not having to retain money was a big motivator for Arizona. Arizona has over 28 million in IR money. I think it's a combination of holding out for too long and not having anything - maybe even Arizona doing a solid to Chychrun sending him to where he wanted to go so there's no bad blood.

Nice video here of the players giving Brassard a gift ahead of his 1,000th game tonight. Given that Brassard played with NYR as well, we'll probably see some kind of recognition at tonight's game.

Always love seeing moments like this where you can really see the connection in the dressing room, and players coming together to support each other.

Next milestone: Giroux is just 17pts away from 1,000

Great blog.

We don't need to be in playoffs. But we do want to be in conversation and we want to get this team set up for a great start next year.

The performance against Detroit 2x was a dominate performance by a very good team. If the Sens can win against Rangers tonight my head might explode.

Is Chychrun from Ottawa? The TSN guys keep saying he's "coming home"?

Their family is from the Ottawa area. He was born his Florida because his father played there when he was born. His dad does broadcasting I believe for the Panthers too. They spend their summers in Ottawa. He was in Ottawa during the pre-season skating/working out with a lot of Sens players.

How quickly things change. Those penalty kills in the 1st were good momentum killers for the Rangers.

does not matter who is on the sens, they are incapable of playing defense in any way, how many time have rangers player been left all alone in the slot....ott is the worst team defensively in the league and its not even close

sure sens can beat bottom 10 teams but if they face any team that is even remotely good they crumble like paper in water

Jesus Tkachuk. Good (frank)ing game. Him and Stutzle are great. Almost makes me want to pay to watch other teams. Almost. Too bad that goal is offsides dammit

Was it offside, or was it favorable call for the NHL team favorite?

It was offside. They showed the "line camera" or whatever they call it. It was probably less than an inch, but rules are rules I guess.
