It's pretty crazy to think that with all of the assets being spent between Toronto, Tampa, Rangers, and Devils that 2 of those teams wont make it past the first round.

If Rutherford hadnt signed Miller to that crazy extension, he would be looking at a nice package of assets for him, cap space moving forward, and a better chance at doing a rebuild. Instead, I think a lot of teams are put off at paying Miller for the next 7 years @ $8M.

The stale cap is what killed Vancouver a lot of their players need cap retained to be moved. It is one reason I think Hex is targeting Miller due to him having a decreased value (unless cap is retained beyond this season). Garland is in the same boat. Which is why I think Hex might choose Vancouver for trades.

Seems like Hextall is big game hunting... I think that's the biggest news.

If it were me, I'd steer clear of a long term commitment like Miller. If I felt this team was a real contender, I could get on board. I still think the best case scenario is to get a good player for the next 2 or 3 years then burn it down.

I'd much prefer a player around 25-27 years old signed to either a long term deal or is still a RFA. Sign him for the next however many years, use him to compete for the rest of this group's window, and then sell him off for futures when its time to rebuild.

Miller is 29 and if the next 3-4 years are using him to be competitive, its possible to sell him off at 33/34, but you wont get as much for him.

If the deal works because Vancouver isnt asking for much, then i have no issue going for it.

Miller's contract is about 3 years too long but I'd be all over it if we can bring him in. Just depends on the acquisition cost. I can't imagine JR is going to retain anything on a contract that hasn't even started yet.

I'm definitely not giving up Pickering or any 1sts past this year unless they are lottery protected.

Youre really high on him, hey? I think its you that has mentioned definitely wanting to keep him a few times. I honestly haven't read or seen much of anything about him. Just know that he's a D that the Pens took at 21st overall.

Forget Miller. If reports that Parayko is in play are real, look there.

He's a super solid D who can play huge minutes, makes few mistakes, and has untapped scoring punch -- and he's pretty young still (29). His $6.5M hit until 2029 is maybe tough to swallow. If STL could be coaxed into picking up $1.5M then it may be worth a look...but even if not, thoughts? I assume STL would be asking for a lot though, but maybe not because of the contract duration...

Likely we'd have to send out Petry to make that work...or Dumo + McGinn/Rutta/Carter?

I believe it's league veteran minimum + $250K. I think it's just over $1M, like $1.035M or something.

Edit: $1.125M

That's the first thing I thought of when I saw the news

Between Carter, JVR, and Hextall, really smart for the Penguins to try to recreate that Flyers winning culture.

It is going to take some time for him to put it all together but I am very high on him. His combination of skating and puck skills is fantastic for a young kid that size. He is really good at the hard to teach stuff for very tall players.

Parts of his game are very reminiscent of Letangs, especially the puck retrieval to breakout transitions.

He's not contributing for a few years, and I'm not saying he is untradeable, but he also isn't just a prospect add on to a trade.

I'm probably too high on him and a lot of others here are too low on him.

Are you as high on him as everyone on here was on Derrick Pouliot?

Lindros turns 50 today. I've seen him play some alumni games including the HHOF Legends game. Dude still looks like he could play, he's still huge.

I’m glad that some accountability is being doled out here. That whole third line has been putrid and they all deserved to be scratched at the very least. Sending them down is the right message. Would be sick if McGinn gets claimed too.

EDIT: to take it a bit further, from the raw numbers it looks like Puustinen, Nylander, and Hallender have all earned call ups. Give these guys a trial run. Can’t be worse than what we’ve been icing in the bottom six.

Is Pouliot ready to take over the #1 D spot from Letang yet?
