NJD gave up essentially nothing of value for a 30 goal scorer in his mid 20s with a 1 year RFA left

from what i can gather from NJD prospect ranking, they did not even give up one of their top 5 prospect and some lists not even top 9. Sharks got hosed

Oh lord. Grier is clearly out of his league.

Hard to believe there wasn’t a better offer out there? I’m guessing Grier prioritized sending Meier to the eastern conference. I thought for sure any deal with devils would include at least one of mercer or holtz.

Devils are set up well going forward.

I’m guessing SJ pushed for Mercer but NJ wouldn’t budge. Not sure how much interest they had in Holtz. Big win for SJ if they re-sign Timo. Not likely though.

Mukhamadullin is going to be a nice addition.

Think all things aligned well for both teams

Devil's D is pretty set and Muk wouldn't have been on the NHL roster for a few seasons without any moves and this will give him an opportunity

From what was said about him he has really improved and impressed in the KHL but still has some development to do and is pretty raw but has the skills

The devils had the luxury as they have Hamilton, Marino, siegenthaler all signed for the next few seasons and top D prospects in Luke Hughes and nemec

Think if Meier signs a fair contract and all works out both teams will be happy

Maybe. Though many thought the same when St. Louis traded O'Reilly to Buffalo and now Thompson looks like a far superior value player. Evaluating end outcomes in trades with so many future assets is impossible.

Shakir Mukhamadullin absolutely stinks. I have no idea why Grier wanted him.

The short term the returns are nothing, the longer term you have a first round, another conditional first round.

Wish I knew what the condition was, likely he signs with NJ, but for the long term view I love the potential of what we are getting back. The short term we are already sunk and Timo was on the last year of his contract, sure he is an RFA but I would likely find it hard to believe Timo would want to stay with the sharks.

So giving up 30 goal scorer for 1, maybe 2 first rounders to me in the sharks situation is a really good deal. 100% bad for the remainder of this season (unless you are shooting for last place)

This trade reminds me of two things: A Bird In The Hand Is Worth Two In The Bush and the Sharks are now Boston trading Joe Thornton for pieces that may or not bring a Cup. Given that there were viable alternatives available (such as being the club that took on Shea Webers contract instead of AZ) which would allowthe LTIR to pay for Timo until Vlasics contract expired, this will be another trade that will be rightfully scrutinized ..especially since the return for Burns was paltry at best, given the retention of salary that hamstring s team.
You now have projected Middle pair and bottom pair D Men who aren't there yet along with 2 picks in the future who may not pan out such as Kaut, Svechnikov for their teams and Merkley etc...
