Really good insight on SanHeim/DeAngelo. You can hope they figure it out or at the very least the coaches see this and address. It is very difficult to play when you are not sure where your partner may be.

How many games have they actually played together, Sanheim and TDA?

Wow, I guess Sanheim has been so irrelevant out there I didn’t even notice it’s been that long. TDA sticks out, good or bad quite a bit.

So the coach isn't utilizing Sanheim properly and the GM didn't do his due diligence with the TOny D trade. That is my take from Bill's piece.

What’s the coach supposed to do, he didn’t fit with Provy, on to the next. GM clearly didn’t do his homework on his own roster, pretty clear they thought he would be fine with Provy

The Flyers defense overall is a bad mix. York really doesn't belong on the top pair and should be playing the left side. DeAngelo is just a mess without the puck regardless of who he plays with. Ristolainen has to be sheltered on the 3rd pair. There isn't much the coaching staff can do with that.

Agreed, always going to be a pair or two that doesn’t really fit. That’s on the GM.

Speaking of bad fits, there were times in those mid 2010 rosters that never seemed to have the right mix. A tough time finding lines for Schenn or simmer at 5 on 5.
Probably more of lack of quality forwards

If Fletcher has even a little humility, he would admit that trading for DeAngelo has not worked out, as was the case with resigning Risto, and would trade DeAngelo at the deadline. His salary is reasonable for a defenseman with 30 points already and teams do like to trade for a player with some term so he's more than just a rental. However I have ZERO confidence that Fletcher will ever do what is best for this team long term, but only what is best for him keeping his job!

RR is a better dman than Tony D; on the defensive end. So that is the move he can make at this time. It isn't ideal.

Sanheim and RR is a better pair.

If I'm a contender I wouldn't want anything to do with D'Angelo. If a non playoff team wants him you most likely aren't getting much talent back at all. maybe a 2nd round pick. Maybe. What an awful trade by Fletch. Think of all the draft capitol wasted to sign a guy that literally can't play defense.

If the Flyers had a real GM here, Hayes, DeAngelo and JVR would be moved for picks at this deadline, and then Attard, Foerster and Lyksell would be moved up to fill their spots the rest of the season to continue their development and evaluation. The team would then lose more games and better their chances to pick higher in this draft and get a game changer. Its really a no-brainer for anyone who cares about the team more than themselves!

I don't know, a contender with a solid set of defenseman that is looking for a boost on their PP would like DeAngelo for the stretch run, because they might be able to shelter him better 5 v 5.

Considering IMO he was signed to replace what they lost when they traded Ghost, I also have to include the draft capital they traded with Ghost in to the equation.

Its insane.

Add it all up they traded Ghost, two 2nds, a 3rd, a 4th for Angelo. (they received a 7th that cancels out the 7th they traded with Ghost)

To me it all comes down to the same problem with the Flyers, what is the plan!?! Are we going for it or are we re-building. The Flyers continue to straddle the fence season after season, and that is why they are where they are. If the Flyers don't accept a rebuild is needed, from Dave Scott downward, they will continue to be a middling team that is never going to get the talent needed to be a true contender in this league. Its a the worst place to be as a franchise, and I really don't understand why the Flyers brass possibly does not see this.

Fletcher is a terrible GM. However, there is not a GM on planet earth that could move Hayes at this deadline without sending additional assets in the deal. If additional assets are required I want no parts of that trade.

It'd more than the stretch run as (I believe) he's signed for $5 million next season. He'd be a hard pass for me.

I respectfully disagree. Hayes is an all-star this year and scoring 0.9 pts/game and has scored at a pace of 50+ points the past 3 seasons, while being hurt through part of it. Hayes is good value as a 2nd or 3rd line center/wing for a contending team at $4-4.5M per. The Flyers simply need to cover salary. The problem is not covering salary for the Flyers, its the return for Hayes. The Flyers should not just give him away, they should get something back. I think a 2nd or 3rd round pick plus a later round pick for him would be enough return.

He is signed for next season at a very reasonable value, that IMO makes him more marketable, not less.
