Maybe Lou just wanted a new blog?

A stud center who does everything for a protected 1st a 3rd liner and a good prospect. Works for me. Lou just has to lock him up. I’ll worry about the major rebuild in 4-5 years. Right now I’m hoping they add something else significant either in the next couple of weeks or over the summer.

What can we trade?

Edit: in the next couple of weeks.

Looking ahead to the summer and the Cap not changing much, could be tough to add something significant if Bo re-signs for big money. Going to be interesting to see how this plays out.

I’m all for going for it. I just don’t think this was the year to do it and I’m completely dumbfounded as to why of all years Lou picked this one to finally make a trade. I agree if you do this we should 100% do something else aka a winger. There’s just nothing left to trade for anyone else

I don’t get this trade. Don’t like it either.

It really is very much about the timing. Team is two years older than the long playoff run. It's very bizarre trying to figure out why Lou waited so long?

Cause he didn’t wanna wait till Bo went UFA?

We all know how that tends to go.

If Horvat signs an extension, then I can stomach losing Räty.

Maybe.

But hey, at least we finally got a new blog outs the deal.

Count me in with whoever said they were confused earlier. I don’t get it. The more I think about this trade the weirder it gets.

possibly trying to stay relevant this season to keep the fans coming to the new arena?

POV I like bea speed but that’s about it. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen anyone miss the net as much as him.

I wasn’t a huge fan of Raty. POV Kid has a nice shot but that’s about it. Of course I am probably wrong about him. Just like the one we gave up, only time will tell.

Anyway you look at it they need more offense so for now I love the trade. For now.

Raty to me is a 2nd line center down the road. His skating scares the hell out of me. I don’t mind losing him to get Bo long term. You have to give to get.

It is very weird. Maybe Lou really wants to keep his job and if his deal is up, he figured I better get moving? Maybe Ledecky and Malkin are just coming down from their long playoff run high and looked more closely at the team?

I’m not knocking horvat but he’s 27 and in two years his best yrs are behind him most likely. Then we have six years at 8-9 million per. We also have no first next year on top of losing raty for what? Maybe squeak into the first round? Like I said don’t like it and don’t understand it. Seems desperate and people do stupid things when they are desperate. That’s what this looks like to me. Some people like it I guess they see something different then I’m seeing but I haven’t seen one legit reason.

Edit; Vukota your reasons suck.

I was only half way kidding when I mentioned Neil Smith should be hired just to talk to the FA's. All I know is he was able to sign Witt, Sillenger, and Poti with a lousy building. Islanders have to solve this FA issue.

I love trades and I'm having trouble with this. I cannot shake the Ryan Smyth feelings. Does not mean this trade cannot somehow work out well. I'm worried right now though.

Raty has skating issues? Thought that was Dufour? I'm a little surprised you seem to like this deal Vukota?

This just feels like a deal for a team on the verge of a cup, not one below the wildcard waterline

But what did they really lose for going for smyth?

Nothing will ever bother me more than letting Tavares walk for nothing.

I agree keaner. Team has not shown any sort of consistent good play the last two years for this type of deal.

Everyone they draft has skating issues 🤣🤣 I didn’t see a great skater but what do I know. Apparently this was a bad trade so maybe I am clueless. Getting a 27 yr old who does everything pretty damn good for futures is fine by me. It’s going to be a long rebuild regardless might well go for it. If they win the cup in the next 4-5 years is it worth it? With Sororkin they’ll always have a change imo. Fack it go for broke lol
