Excuse me.

Did you just imply that Canada is #2 at hockey?

How dare you sir?

Gonna post this again, because I worked so damn hard on it:

I know it's a Canadian thing to rag on our sports teams if they don't do well, but let's put our World Cup performance in perspective:

Canada is ranked #41 in the world.

Belgium is ranked #2.

Croatia is ranked #12.

Morocco is ranked #22.

The equivalent in hockey would be if the tiny nation of Georgia (#41 in IIHF rankings) went to the World Cup of Hockey, and had the following results:

1-0 loss to Canada

4-1 loss to Norway

2-1 losing to Poland at the end of the 2nd period.

I think we can all agree that it would be a huge success for Georgia.

I think people are salty because they topped CONCACAFF and yet Mexico almost got in, Costa Rica won a game and the USA are still in.

And yes I realize they were in the group of death, but people don't give a poope.

There was no easy group for Canada.

Lots of good teams are going home already.

Did Herschel Walker score for Georgia?

Canada on the upswing. We have some young talent

I think they could have gotten out of the USA's group. Wales really sucked and were overrated going in and Iran is a bit of a wildcard.

I wonder how the US got a good ranking and a good group despite finishing below Canada in qualifying? TV?

Pretty sure he can't. Once he decided to represent Canada, he was stuck with us.

Corrupted FIFA.

All joking aside, I believe the rankings consider many years in the past, not just the qualifiers.

I don't think soccer works that way. Hence a guy named Eriksson who was a Swede playing for Saudi Arabia or whatever at one point.

Yeah but did Eriksson ever dress for Sweden? If he didn't, he's fair game.

Maybe I'm wrong about this but I remember something about people being happy Davies chose Canada initially because it meant he would stick around, not just play a few games.

Edit according to google:

Under the rules, in order for a player to switch nationalities, a player must not have played in a competitive fixture (that is, can only have played in friendlies for the first country), and FIFA approval is necessary.

Interesting how Friedman says Leafs likely prefer a D over a F, they want to pave a way for Knies and let it be known to him that he has that path.

Mentions a D with bite, like Avs did with Manson.

Nothing made me more proud as a Canadian than seeing Petr Nedved don the red and white and play for Team Canada in the 1994 Olympics.
