Nice Read Hank!! That's a lot of LD, he can play RD but he's better on the L. Maybe why Power has been switching a bit.

You're right. I was going to get into that but there's a lot of moving parts and a lot of ways to make it work

Chychrun-Dahlin
Power-Samuelsson

Power-Dahlin
Chychrun-Samuelsson

Plus if you keep Jokiharju in the trade, you could go

Dahlin-Samuelsson
Power-Joker
Chychrun-Lyubushkin

That's an incredibly deep 6

Plus there are always injuries. Lots of options

Sabers might as well get into the Chychrun bidding war, as they have a lot of promising pieces to offer. But that 2023 1st is gonna hurt. 2023 will be a great draft year! Maybe AZ might takes a 2024 1st instead if you upgrade the 3rd rounder to a 2nd.

Sabres 2023 1st (fully lottery protected), Isak Rosen, Mittelstadt or Jokiharhu, 2023 Vegas 2nd.

Wouldn't be interested at anything approaching that. LD isn't a great fit to begin with, but 2 remaining years is a problem. Their current plan features a group of prospects hitting the NHL in 24/25, the final year of his deal. Just doesn't make sense to me.

Six surgeries already. Wow. That's way too many. Wrists, knees, and shoulders seem important to me for a hockey player. I'd much rather add a big fish forward than a fill in for Robocop.

I think I've heard too many Rivet talks about playing hurt all the time and how it limited his game. It was very visible to me watching him in Buffalo. He seemed to never have his full game. I suspect that's how Chychrun will be.

Yeah it's been rough as hell for Chychrun with those injuries.

Might be what it would take to get him when competing with other interested teams.

Overall, you're going to have a rough time trying to find a defender that fits if you limit it to a right handed one who is solid contractually beyond the 24-25 season.

And available.

24 year old RHD with a low contract and solid underlying numbers are very rarely available.

Just makes more sense for contending teams. Not a guy I'd get into a bidding war over.

Don't think you need someone under contract long term, but you need some team control.

Conor Timmons would have been a low risk high reward candidate. Toronto got him for a bag of pucks

An RD RHD under team control does not make the search that much easier.

It would likely be a team with a surplus of RD RHD, like the Kings, and for teams like that, why would they willingly trade one of their 2 best RD RHD without asking a lot in return?

That means you're likely looking for a prospect RD RHD, which doesn't help the roster much for another season or two, and you hope will help them from that point forward.

The Sabres not picking an RD RHD with their 2nd round pick last season is a glaring miss.
