Carol Schram: Canucks get 1st win & acquire Studnicka, Bruce hits 600, Pens on tap Friday The Vancouver Canucks can exhale after pulling out a 5-4 road win against the Seattle Kraken on Thursday night, but it's right back into the fire with the Pittsburgh Penguins waiting at Rogers Arena on Friday. Vancouver also pulled off a trade on Thursday, acquiring centre Jack Studnicka.

Unfortunately, I'm on my way out the door. But here's the full deal from the Canucks' Twitter account:

General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that defenceman Ethan Bear and forward Lane Pederson have been acquired from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for their 5th round pick in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft. Carolina will retain a portion of Bear’s salary.

Seems like a solid bit of business. Elliotte Friedman has been insisting that the Hurricanes didn't want to retain salary, and Lane Pederson is another right-shot center, who's 25.

I wondered if Allvin was hoping to announce this deal when he called his presser during practice on...was it Wednesday? Now it's finally done.

How long is bear signed for? Solid pickup for a weak defence

I was talking about the Canuck picks, sorry I missed an additional 4th, the draft looks much more enticing now.
Edit: ...and I thought the 2nd was 2023, I have been proven wrong.

Well done Carol thank you.

Well, taken 8 games but finally the players are standing for each other. It's a good look for Pearson/Miller to step up and Bo as well sends a positive message through the room. Hoping for more of the same tonight. Go Nucks!

Whether we like the trades or not, they are trying to address the biggest organizational weaknesses, Centre and defense, even if it appears to be the age-gap thingy that Benning tried doing.

Don't know much about Pederson, but Bear is capable enough to be a #5 defenseman, if he plays like he did a couple seasons back.

Agreed.

MDP, Myrenberg and a 5th for Bear and 2 depth C's.
i'm fine with these moves.

With Hughes out, are we going with ?

OEL-Myers
Boner-Schenn
Burroughs-Bear

Definite improvement over Breisbois, Juulsen, Stilman, etc.

Bear was quite decent in EDM for a time actually but did turn into a bit of a turnover machine his last year there. Hoping he is past all that and can be some solid help back there. He didn't get a full fair shake in EDM IMO.

This beats the Dermott trade at least.

Similar player I'm guessing but giving up a 5th over a 3rd makes it tolerable.
