A team tanking has no must deals except to tank further. Not having a calming presence in net means nothing.

Hughes says Slaf has been underwhelming. Meanwhile, Wright is flying out there and creating scoring chances. It’s early tho. Nothing to see here.

Does anyone know how many teams put in a waiver claim for Riley Barber?

Faceoffs are one of the most overrated stats out there. Teams with great puck pursuit will get the puck back. The Avs were dead last in faceoff% last regular season.

it's true that this statistic can be misinterpreted but not every faceoff is as important, pretty sure the Avs won the most crucial ones more often than not during the playoffs.

He cleared. Headed to the AHL. I thought for sure Don Barber could make a few phone calls to call in a favor.

Don’t know if that’s true or not. But they got a lot of pucks and put them in the net.
That’s all that matters.

that's kind of the point, I think it's safe to say that winning an important faceoff in your own end or in the offensive zone helps considerably to put some pucks in the net and prevent the opposing team from scoring goals.

The faceoffs that mater are on special teams and the end of the game protecting a lead or trying to get the equalizer. Outside of that, they’re pretty insignificant. The Avs use their speed to pressure all over the ice leading to turnovers and bad decisions by their opponents. Outside of the special teams and end of game situations, the Avs don’t care much about faceoffs. They know they can get the puck back.

What exactly does it mean? Matt Murray is "calm." He also sucks. MTR should be tanking hard until they are ready to compete again. Especially for the 2023 draft.

well Allen isn't the greatest but he's good enough to keep his team in the game, being calm obviously isn't enough... by "calmness" I guess I mean having enough experience to pay attention to little details like managing the puck well behind the net, and communicating with the guys in front of him, which isn't always as easy at the NHL level for a goalie like Montembeault or Primeau for example. anyway they're still going to lose a bunch of games.

alright, you basically consider winning faceoffs to be almost pointless, while I don't, agree to disagree.

Disagree is good. The Avs were 14th out of 16 teams in the playoffs in faceoffs and you’re saying they probably won the important ones. But there is no evidence of that. They can’t win a faceoff to save their lives. But they possess the puck a lot and know how to get it back when they lose it. All good teams do that.

Some good points on faceoffs won here but as a former center ice man I would say faceoffs are extremely important. Once you lose a faceoff your chasing so why not win it and control the puck. Most important are in your own end facing an empty net and six attackers you have to win that draw. Your pp is that much better if you have the puck from the get go. Anyone who has played the game at any higher level will agree.

The Avs are a team of super star hockey players which does help but if your mediocre those faceoff wins become that much more important. When Bergeron is out of the Bruins lineup they are not the same team because he wins faceoffs for starters.
