Five questions we are asking with the start of the NHL season just around the corner:

1. Could the Ottawa Senators make the playoffs for first time since 2017?

Maybe. I live in Ottawa and watch them a lot, live and on TV. The biggest factor is the coaching staff, but more to the point the head coach. He's out of his depth. He miss-uses players in impactful situations and GM Pierre Dorion MUST remove Zaitsev or the coach will use him to the detriment of the team.

2. Which of last season's playoff teams is vulnerable in the Eastern Conference?

While Boston seems like an easy pick, that core seem to find a way. Someone else in here said the Panthers....I could see it. Just because you've added doesn't mean there will be chemistry. It seems unlikely, but you never know.

3. Where does Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane end up this season?

Probably staying in Chicago.

4. Which one of these goalies will have the most impact with their new team: Darcy Kuemper (Washington), Jack Campbell (Edmonton Oilers), Alexandar Georgiev (Colorado) or Matt Murray (Toronto Maple Leafs) or Cam Talbot (Ottawa Senators)?

Matt Murray - impact - negative. If the Leafs continue their trend of trying to outscore opponents, and he still lets in 4+ a game....it'll get ugly in the play offs.

5. Who produces more points this season -- Johnny Gaudreau in Columbus or Jonathan Huberdeau in Calgary?

Who cares? I think both of those seasons last year....phantoms.

Is Benjamin Button real? Jakob Chychrun holds the answer. I'll be watching that closely.

Don't you feel like nothing is guaranteed about the Sens making the playoffs?

Every team (well close to every team) in the Atlantic is really good

Less Montreal/Buffalo/Detroit, the division has a lot of high-end talent

Even the Red Wings figure to be much-improved this year

The Sabres will probably be better too

Essentially every team will be a tough play, with the exception of Montreal

You have to think the Sens will need to really play well to have a shot

Outside of some crazy injuries or something, it'll be a dogfight

Upside, for the Sens, is that they've also improved

Reasonable to expect that TBL/FLA/TOR will take the top-3 spots

And if Boston can survive without a few high-end players early in the year, they'll be a tough out

Can't expect any of those teams not to do what they've done for the last few years

Cam Talbot was a good addition in net however

Opposite Forsberg, the Sens will have greatly improved at goaltender

Under the tutelage of DJ Smith they will certainly have good leadership

Not to be negative, but despite all that I think playoffs are still a long-shot

The end

which ones?
No illusions here. They'll be in tough to make the play offs. Goaltending is ok, They can't score though. And that's not gonna change. I was ready to move on from Barzal a couple seasons ago.
